Hi guys! I’m reviewing the housing plans for Davis, and one thing that sort of punched me in the face was the no car if you live in a residence hall rule. I live in the Bay Area, and while I don’t want to come back every weekend, I do want to commute back and forth occasionally. What’s the best option available to me, or am I really stuck in Davis for the first couple years (of course, I mean stuck in the nicest way possible)?

I used to live in Cuarto when I first transferred to Davis (this was back when Student Housing still had space in the residence halls for transfer students) and a lot of people I know had cars while living in Cuarto. If you get put in Cuarto, you can park on Wake Forst Drive or behind Webster and Thoreau Hall on Russell Blvd. Both those streets aren’t part of UCD property so there’s no risk of getting a ticket from the UCD TAPs. If you park on Russell, you have to make sure your car is parked somewhere else on either Tuesdays or Thursdays (can’t remember which day) because that’s when they have street cleaning.

Also, you don’t live in the residence halls for “The first couple years”. You only live there for your first year. As of last year, they’ve extended it to sophomores, but living in the dorms for your second year is completely optional.

There is a daily shuttle to Berkley from UCD. My son’s roommate took the shuttle and then bus to visit a friend at Stanford. Also you can take the train.

Hey guys thanks for the tips!
