Housing & Enrollment

Do you need to enroll in FSU in order to apply for housing (get a eventual lottery number) on Feb 1st?

I was wondering the same thing. Hope you get an answer.

@NoleMom22 I don’t want to lose out on housing and my daughter won’t know where she is going until April 1st. Bit of a dilemma.

This was posted on Reddit. The last sentence says a housing contract does not commit you to FSU.
"We are very excited about admissions decisions being released later this week and wanted to give you a heads up about our NEW housing contract process for newly admitted students!

The Fall/Spring contract will open on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 9 AM. However, we know that you are busy and may have tests, school events, or family commitments at that time. NEW FOR THIS YEAR, you have the flexibility to submit the housing contract at any time from when it opens on February 1 through February 5 and be included in our earliest Welcome Window group. Students who submit contracts during the Welcome Window will all be entered into a lottery and will receive a randomized contract number on February 6th. The Welcome Window is your opportunity to be one of the earliest students to commit to living on-campus for next year!

If you submit your contract on February 7th or later, you will receive a contract number based on the date and time your contract is submitted. The contract number serves as your “place in line” for receiving on-campus housing. Your contract number will be larger than those who contracted during the Welcome Window.

Please remember to activate your FSUID before accessing the housing portal to complete your housing contract. To activate your FSUID, visit my.fsu.edu and click “Activate my FSUID”. You will need: a. Your EMPLID as provided by Admissions (a nine-digit number) b. Your date of birth c. The last five digits of your social security number

Please note: On-campus housing is not required or guaranteed for incoming students at FSU. The housing contract is binding if you attend FSU. The housing contract does not commit you to FSU."

PS: My son was accepted to UCF and we did the housing contract without him accepting UCF, yet. We will lose about $150 of the $250 deposit. That is probably what will happen with FSU.

@Parman37 Thank you! This is good news. Not so great that I have to pay at multiple schools too but have no choice.

So UCF and FSU take housing deposits you don’t get back if you don’t go?

You get a portion back (I know this of UCF). I have heard it works the same at FSU. With UCF, if cancel by May 1, you get back $100 of the $250. Or $150 of the $250 - can’t remember exact amount but you get a portion.

I saw a thread on FSU Reddit by FSU admissions and FSU housing that you get all but $50 back. They recommend you apply for housing even if you are unsure of attending FSU.

How long does it take for the fSUID to get activate for? Do you get another email that activated? Will it be hard to get housing if you wait until after the 5th to apply for housing? My son is still waiting for several other schools and is not sure what he is going to do.

So, does the person that submitted in the window for the lottery pay the same as someone submitting Feb 7th? What is the amount and how much get back? Confused with UCF references. If missed the Feb 5th deadline for lottery, any big advantage to submit on Feb 7/8 or might as well wait until 9th and hear from UF?

We did it. It was $225 but you get a portion back. We also did one for UF but don’t even know if he was accepted. FSU was a little more expensive, but we do think it is going to be his school of choice. He got number 86 in the lottery so I guess that was pretty lucky.
