Hi! I am a prospective BA theatre student for Fall 2014. I keep getting a lot of mixed reviews on the different residence halls.

Obviously Middlebrook is appealing because of the Arts LLC but the general consensus is that a lot of the students there are either "stuck up" or "socially awkward". Is there truth to that or is it more something that people living in other dorms think? I have also heard that the crime in the area is sort of bad.

Also, I would love to learn more about the 17th Avenue Hall. It looks really nice, but I'd like to know if it's a lot of freshman or mostly returning students.

The superblock dorms seem to be known for their partying, but is that true for all of them/all the floors? I enjoy partying but from what I read it's a little...excessive at times.

I want to be in a hall where there are a lot of activities and opportunities to meet new people.

Really any input on the different residence halls would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I’m a prospective BA music student I’m gonna live in Middlebrook mostly cuz of its location and its semi-private bathroom (huge benefit for me). Id say you will always find things to do, new people to meet wherever you live because after all it’s a massive campus. But, crime is indeed a concern :(

I think Comstock would be great and Super Block not bad. But 17th Avenue, I guess it’s a little bit too far from the theater building?

It’s nice to meet someone else in the possible same boat as me! I hadn’t even thought about the distance between 17th Ave and the theater building. It doesn’t look TOO bad because some of the bus routes go that way, and there’s also the option of biking when the weather is nice, but that’s just judging from the maps I’m looking at. I think if I do decide to go to UMN I’ll call the Housing Office and get their opinion on it, because I’m sure they know a lot more about how inconvenient/difficult it would be than I do. The whole crime thing on the West Bank is REALLY concerning to me, because even if I don’t live there, having most of my classes there and possibly rehearsing kind of late is concerning.

Yes, very true. The rehearsal kind of thing also worries me :s
