Housing for First Years

I object to the framing that girls who don't live in the Quad either knit or sit alone in their rooms. !@#$%! Quad bunny stereotype.

"quad bunny!" LOL good one, TD.

oh come on!!! a green street house held its first ever house party last semester. It was a disgrace!!! lollll. Sorry, I'm offensive, I can't help it.

But honestly.

Cutter/Z has a large population of sci-fi kids who wear their capes around campus.

Baldwin/Talbot/Gillett etc have their own small gatherings, but nothing huge.

And green street houses--from what friends who live there tell me have drama, and knitting nights.

When I'm sitting in a rocker, can barely move and have prune juice in my wine glass I'll be knitting. But for now I've got places to go :)

yours truly,
bunny

Oh Sara...you're good! That's what I love about Smithies, never ones to hold back their true feelings. I think the word "quad" has a certain perception (true or untrue) to all of us who attended college. Party and quad seem to go hand in hand, I guess. However, I must doubt that other houses in other areas of Smith are lonely knitters waiting for the next days classes to begin. Don't they attend those parties in the quad as well? And doesn't every house have their own little nuances?

Yeah, every house has their own thing. Coming into Smith I was told that some of the smaller homes were where the LBGTQ kids lived, some stoners, elm street has "issues" and "drama", the quad had more extroverted girls, green street the introverted ones and cutter/z was home to internationals and the cape wearers.

I have only seen a few green st girls meander on over to the quad. Most of them tell me "its too far!" or...some other excuse. But then again I have no reason to go hang out on green street. The only problem I have with the quad is when I'm late to class and I have to walkkkkk too far to get there. Oh well...

{{I have heard that Amherst guys tend to like the Mohos more since Smith has more of a "lesbian, *****y" stigma attached to it.}}

Sara, that's not the reason Amherst guys favor Holyoke women, at times--usually when they're toasted. The lesbian contingency doesn't go to Amherst parties anyway. I've had some experience at this--lol Smith women won't take any crap or fall for the usual dumb-ass lines Amherst guys use when they’re trying to score.

I'll let Holyoke women's actions speak for themselves.:)

Oh I've seen holyoke in action.

I cringe.

hahahahahaha!!!!!

holyoke in action???? Hmmmmmmmm

Not that action. Ok guys next topiccccc........

No onw wants to talk about Hampshire? :)

I'm off to my class there...

I think my daughter would look pretty cool in a cape.

Halloween is only 7 months away. Go for it. :)

Our D has a cape that she bought in England a few years back. It is a beautiful wool reversable red and black cape. She also took a viking helmet and multi-colored crinolin (sp?) tutus with her to school her first year. Her sister (at age 7) read a book about Helen Keller and came out with 'gradututued with horns' instead of graduated with honors. It became a family joke and so we gave the eldest a "gradututed with horns" party and made tutus and horns for everyone to wear. They were useful for halloween.
She has lived in Baldwin and is now in Hopkins, which I was told today has a secret room.

Is this legit?

I guess since they are so en vogue I'll just have to buy one this summer while interning in DC. Maybe I'll convince Bush to buy one....

Absolutely. (This is the Y-chromosomed Mini speaking.) We were in England, singing at the Royal College of Music, believe it or not (really!), and we found (and paid for) the cape in Covent Garden.

Classy capes are georgous. It the silly ones with wings in the back that make me laugh.

FIRST YEARS LIVE IN THE QUAD.

do all first years live in the quad? is it mandatory?

do all first years live in the quad? is it mandatory?}}

Rule # 1-- be nice to Sara b/c she's a great kid and can show you where the fun is. Rule # 2-- don't believe everything she says. She has the habit of yanking chains. No, you don't need to live in the quad. You can choose any part of campus to live. But it is luck of the draw and if the qaud area is third on you list of choices, there is still a chance you could end up there.
IMO the quad is a great place if you're the more outgoing type and like to do things--e.g. drive to Harvard for the hell of it, or go to to Dunkin Dougnuts at 4 in the morning just b/c you can.
