Housing for International Student

i just wanted to get a feel what type of housing would be appropriate for an international student... i've applied (still don't know if i'm accepted, however the people at my uni are confident I will be) to do an exchange for the fall and winter semesters from australia, and hope to get an idea about what housing choice will be best...

i'm pretty keen to party and have a good time while i'm there, with studying probably not the highest priority... also i've just started the 3rd year of my degree here, so I'll be doing the 3rd and 4th years subjects, should I still be interested in a hall with more freshman? from what i've read they party the most, or should i goto a hall with older students who are more my age?

so does anyone have any recommendations?

cheers from australia...

I'm pretty sure they won't put you in a Freshmen Hall. You might end up in Manzanita. Here's my advice....if you're over 21 ask for JALAMA HOUSE in Manzanita Village. It's over 21 building and students are more social there and tend to throw parties in their rooms wiht no prob as they're of legal age to drink. They go to downtown SB often to party. That house rocks!

thanks... that sounds like what i'm after... i've also read that positions in the dorms are decided by a lottery... does anyone know what the chances are of missing out on a place? do many miss out, or only a few?

Should be no problem getting in the dorm. There's no guarantee that you will get a space but so far everyone was accomodated the last 2 years I believe. Don't pick UCSB apartments, odds are you wont get a contract as continuing students get priority.

that sounds good... the ucsb apartments are a 2nd option for me... i'd much prefer to be in the residence halls... so that sounds good on that front anyhow... fingers crossed it works out well :D
