Has anybody ever run into the problem of Housing saying it's full? The woman on the phone wouldn't even bother to put me on the waiting list.

Completely unrelated to your problem, but I was going to see if there was anything open (that I could find) on the Housing portal, and I found that my assignment for next year had been majorly changed… Which is extremely annoying because Housing never notified me. So I wanted to thank you for giving me a reason to check out the Housing portal and look into things, because now I can deal with this issue.

Unfortunately, Housing can be fickle. They probably are actually full, although if you didn’t mention that you are a transfer, you never know if there’s something open somewhere.

I was hoping to be able to view any rooms available through the portal, but unfortunately that option appears to only have existed while returning residents were allowed to do their room selection.

Thank you for reminding me that I should always check and recheck things. And I know what you mean, that housing portal was practically a blank screen for me.

Honestly- and I say this with several years of experience with not just Housing, but a number of different FSU departments- if you don’t get into Housing and end up living off campus, you might have dodged a bullet.

If you live off campus without a car, you can take the buses around campus. Depending on where your classes are you might have to walk further or something, but there are bus routes all around campus and to all of the major nearby apartment complexes.

You can look at the bus routes here: http://transportation.fsu.edu/maps/seminole-express

I would offer advice as to where, if Housing can’t help you, to start looking, but I haven’t lived off campus at FSU. Several of my friends have, with mixed results.

Hey Lexi
my D was disappointed that she could not get into a dorm. We looked at a lot of options close to school but in the end we decided on Southgate.(close proximity to FSU) because she wanted to live in a dorm her first yr. It is a little pricey compared to apts. Southgate contract includes meal plan, cable and internet, as well as their utilities along weekly housekeeping. We also looked at a lot of apts near by. Check out this website. http://offcampushousing.fsu.edu/ It spent a weekend going from apt. to apt. it is a little overwhelming. Good luck!

Hi Lexi,

I don’t think that Housing is 100% full in Rogers. You may want to call back and double-check just to make sure. It might be that the openings are only for grad students, but some communication from them makes it sound like there are some openings still.

Laura, I agree. I’m already overwhelmed from just looking at listings online. I’m using that website and it’s helpful. Thank you!

Pasbal, thank you so much! Do you know if I just applied for housing in Spring (like they suggested) that there are usually a lot of openings?

If you sign a lease somewhere, just make sure that you can get out of it for Spring, if you apply for housing through FSU. If FSU gives you a spot for Spring, you may be obligated to pay at least 50% of the rent charge, even if you never live there, depending on some circumstances.

There aren’t a lot of openings for Spring. The openings are basically only from students that graduate or end up leaving FSU. It’s only usually something like 100-200 spots total on campus.

Depending on whether you want a traditional dorm style living arrangement (like Southgate) or you want to be somewhere that’s a regular apartment, you will find literally hundreds of options around campus.

I can’t really be of much help, unfortunately. I’ve had friends live in several different places and even in the same complex I’ve had friends that had good and bad things to say.

I don’t know where your classes will be, but if you’ll be predominantly on the west side of campus, The Luxe on West Call is right across from campus and it’s pretty new. I don’t know if they’re full (or how much they charge, though it might be a bit higher than you might expect because it’s new), but you might check there.
