Housing Help Please!!!!

ok.......so i'm looking for a dorm.....i'm really interesting in the res colleges.......and am really open to suggestions......so here are some things about me:

Chem/Flute Performance Double Major with Biochem minor.......yes i'm psycho (just joking)

I love collaboration and don't like cutthroat competition.
Besides my love of chem and music I really like to swim.
I have a wide mix of friends.
I'm not a huge party person. I like to be social and I'll probably go to a party or two but i'm not a big drinker or partier.
I want a friendly dorm but also on the quieter side.....ie social but calm.
I was considering CCI, Willard, Shephard, etc.
Any suggestions? I know i need 5 and I really only have those three in that order right now. I could really use some help.......THANK YOU!
Thanks

CCI sounds good and if you put it first you will probably get it. I would go CCI, Willard, Shepard, Allison, 1835 Hinman?

Thanks dfleish!!! Anybody else???

if you want a quieter dorm, probably don't put down Allison or Willard ... although, if you put Allison or Willard anywhere but in your top 2, you won't get them anyway. CCI is kind of a nerdy place, if you don't mind being down south (which you shouldn't, since you're a music major), I'd consider CRC or ISRC, which are both pretty laid-back, but still fairly social.

CRC is very community-like, and social, but it's loud there. Maybe that's just the suite I visited, but it seems like everyone is friends and they're always being crazy with each other. I could never study with my CRC friends in their suite lounges because it was too noisy.

How would you compare Shepard and 1835 Hinman. I'm social but not a big drinker. I want to avoid anything too nerdy or isolated.

Shep is more community-based since it's a res college. Hinman is a bit more isolated, but still pretty social. They also differ because Shep is a more regular-type dorm and 1835 is suite-style. Both are pretty good; 1835 has a more practical campus location, but it's a bit farther from Evanston.

plus hinman rooms are tiny!

Chapin! I do live here, so I'm biased, but you sound like many of the residents: Music major (the music building/practice building is right next door), social but calm (we usually go out to party, then return to chat and do homework, so you can pick and choose when you wanna party and when you want to relax), multiple interests and friends...

we also have our share of pre-meds (one who is doubling in Performance studies). But yeah. Biggest rooms on campus, across the street from Willard, small (70 ppl) with good community, people are very friendly but respectful. :)

It's kinda the best kept secret on campus. ;)

i kinda have a similar situation, i don't really know much about the dorms, i plan on being a bioeng major, like to meet people, i'd like a dorm where i can get away to a quiet place somtime, prefer low substance use, maybe go to a party once in a while. i was thinking slivka since its new and its the science dorm and its so close to tech...

slivka sounds perfect for you, bver. are you indian or chinese by any chance? if you are it's even more perfect ;) they don't nickname it the 'college of chinese and indians' for nothing hehe.

Ayers CCI is the College of Chinese and Indians :P Slivka is probably just as notorious for that though.

sweet. i'll fit right in =P

ooh right, though i love you for telling me about slivka, are the other dorms simlar to that? cos i have five slots to fill up XD

is CCI the communications dorm? i dont really understand the whole res college thing, is it just that the dorm is better tailored to give resources for whatever major it is about?

CCI is the College of Commerce and Industry... for math/econ/etc. Res colleges are better suited a) for building community, and b) in some cases for living with people with similar interests- CRC for comm/journalism, Slivka for engineering, etc.

lol touche, but yeah they're pretty much the same deal. slivka is just nicer.
