Housing Issue

Hi guys! So I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on what I'm about to ask you all, I feel like it's a really sticky situation, so yeah:

Right now I am living in an off-campus apartment with some friends, and I have told them I am moving out at the end of this semester to move back to campus (and that it had nothing to do with them whatsoever, because it didn't). The problem is that we're all in a lease, so I have to find someone to replace me. I feel like I am not going to find anyone, and so I would be stuck paying the money to live here until I would maybe find someone to replace me at some point. I need to ideally find someone for January but am having zero luck so far. I haven't told the housing people at my school that I am definitely moving back yet, because I haven't found someone to replace me, and don't know if I want to pay for the apartment when I'm not even living there. I feel like it would just be money down the drain, but I feel like I really need to move back to campus.

Any input would be appreciated! Thank you <3

Well, stay in the apartment until you can find your replacement. You made a commitment, and need to stick to it. It would be one thing if you were moving far away, like leaving school. But you aren’t, so you need to find a replacement, or stick the year out and learn from the experience. Maybe your apartment-mates know of someone who wants out of the dorms and would take on the share of the lease? Put signs up, let people in your classes know of the apartment, put signs in the laundry room of dorms, etc. Your friends should also be trying hard to find someone so that it is someone they like, and not just some person you find. No one is going to want to move into an apartment where they are the “odd man out”, etc., so a friend is more likely to want to move in.
