Housing Mail

Has anyone recieved in the mail, housing information. I read elsewhere that people have already gotten thiers. Im feeling a little paranoid, lol.

Daughter got her packet today. Housing info is pretty random. Just asking if she's a boy or a girl and what flavor of co-ed or not space she would like to be housed. No room mate matching questions at all. Hope the gods are smiling :)

I just got the huge packet (the postage is $4.05)! It includes a lot of information. and I plan to send in my housing form tomorrow! Would it be good to use priority mail?

I was under the impression that they sort through the housing mateiral all at once, so unless you're late on the submission I don't think you should rush it.

I have couple questions about each living area

Substance-Free living area - everyone is committed to not bringing any kind of substance, but some of them may be a smoker?

Nonsmoking - all are nonsmokers, but they are allowed to bring substance onto the floor?

Quiet-Study: everyone is committed to an extended set of quiet hours, but they are allowed to smoke outside the hall and to bring substance onto the floor?

Uhh...It's kind of weird how they divided it.

But all freshman dorms are no substance. I don't even know why that's an option.

By no substance I mean, you cannot smoke or drink on the floor / building.

As a freshman, barring being 21, you are not allowed to drink. Smoking is prohibited within all buildings at the UR and some buildings have minimum distances from building. So you have to smoke outside.

Drugs and things of that nature well, like smoking do it outside. But I mean you if your going to smoke an illegal drug, just don't do it so that people can see...

The rules of the no substance thing is, you don't bring anything onto the hall or do anything on the hall.

And like I said, that pretty much applies to all halls. I think they just have that as an option so for social reasons they can pair you with someone who doesn't do drugs or smoke (as much).

Quiet study is just that quiet study. Extedned quiet hours, but i mean most of the time you study in the library anyways more resources and the librarians are so very very helpful.

Again as for substances, all freshman dorms are considered substance free in teh sense that your not allowed any in your dorm or on the floor. Smoking and drinking are also prohibited within freshman dorms. etc etc.

ironic, just got my packet today. Gonna register to get my email.
The housing form is very short. How do they choose your roomate?

thanks, dltprm!

Insane_membrane, which living area would you pick?

I am not sure, but it really wouldn't matter since Im RD and I can't state my preference. But I like Susan B Anthony Hall, since its near everything.

as for how they choose. it's random. as crabbylady said, hope the gods are smiling.

haha yeah i hope so too

If you want to state a preferance, just write somewhere on the application which dorm you want ot live in!

I don't know if they literally take that into consideration, but I put Gilbert on my sheet and I got Gilbert so that has to mean something.

p.s. there isn't a spot for it, i just put it in the corner with exclemation marks like some sort of 13year old who discovered AIM.

those substance free and quiet study "options" are really bs, i've heard. I dont know if its true, but i've heard that most people who live in quiet study don't really have it that quiet and that many people in the substance free...well.....

any big difference btw 280 and 230 meal plan?

yeah, beside from the price, the number of meals per week is slightly smaller in the 230 meal plan (14 per week vs. i believe 17 per week)...oh and the declining is 400 for 230 and 300 for 280...i'm just gonna take 230 cause 14 meals a week is good enough...i'm just gonna brunch and dinner everyday...
