Hello, I am an upcoming freshmen who will be living in jester west.
I have two questions…how long exactly can I apply for the housing? by semester or by year? (My parents may move to austin next year, so I may live with them.) And is it required to live the first year in campus?

It is not required to live on campus your first year. Your housing contract will be for 9 months.
^^They’re correct, BUT around December they sent out emails telling us we could be released early from our contracts if we wanted/needed to. So it can be by semester. I don’t recall if there was a fee for this or not but I think there might have been, given the nature of it.
It is not required to live on campus but once you receive your keys on Move in day you are locked in to pay the year, the first payment is due Oct. 1st. If you already signed your contract for the whole year and check in on move day then you will have to pay for the whole year. I would call housing and see about what you can do if you only want to stay there for just the fall.
