housing question, and computer recommendations?

Heyy guys.

So I got accepted to FSU, and I'm definitely going there. :D I also got accepted into the Honors program, and, when filling out my residence app, made Landis my first choice (Gilchrist second). Unfortunately, my priority number is in the 3000's because I was accepted in this second round (feb. 20). Do you think I have a chance of getting into either choice?

Also, I really need to buy a laptop soon, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to brands or whatnot. I've always used windows, but I would be open to checking out a macbook. Has anyone had a certain make or model really crap out, or on the other hand, has any brand been exemplary?

I would really appreciate it if anyone had any information they would be willing to share. Congratulations to everyone who was accepted--go 2012!

first of al conratulations and best of luck. our s will also be an incoming freshman this year.

re computer, you may want to start here:
fsu.edu | Computer Store

the fsu computer store has some basic recommendations for what to look for in a new laptop. they offer a computer bundle (available in april) that will include microsoft office and a whole bunch of service and support.

If you are reasonably comfortable with computers you will certainly be ab;e to get a better price going directly through dell, hp etc.

as far as the macbooks are concerned, they are very nice, but you will get much more bang for your buck with a dell, hp, acer etc.

hope this helps and congratulations.

Congratulations on your acceptance to the FSU honors program! I think you still have a very good chance of getting Landis even with your high priority number.

thank you nycollegedad for the link and the macbook/others comparison. i have a feeling i'll probably stay with windows, as that's with what my dad has always operated (being the tech-saavy parent).

and thanks for the honors info, cybermom. i feel better about my position now. :]

if it helps you, i am going to order for my son the Dell Inspiron 1525 for $699

My boyfriend and I have HP Pavilion's and my roomie has a macbook and we all love our computers. Macbooks are really good because (lol well supposedly) they don't get viruses and you never have like computer freezing issues, etc. But if you do any sort of online gaming, then don't get a mac because no gaming systems really support mac (or so my boyfriend tells me).

I personally love HP's though because I've been raised on windows and get confused with mac's windows and stuff and out of all the PC brands I've tried (Dell, Compaq, HP) I've had the least amount of issues with HP. And when I do have minor problems, their online support is awesome. Plus their computers have fun features.

Congrats on the Honors Program!

My daughter is also going to be in the program and Landis is her first choice and Gilchrist is second for her, also.

Since the majority of entering freshmen will be requesting different dorms from you (only 10% of freshmen will be in honors), I think you have a great shot at Landis. (Plus, all honors students don't automatically request Landis.)

What is your intended major?

Congratulations on your admission to FSU and especially the Honors Program!
:D

skibird, congrats to your daughter :] i have no idea what my major will be, but my fallback will be something in english or journalism.

and fsugirl, thanks for the info! i don't really play online games, but i've grown up with windows, so it's what i'm most used to.
