hii everyone :)

so i got into the alice lloyd dorms (writing scholars program) AND mcsp (community scholars prgm) and i dont know which one to choose!! can anyone help me by listing the pros/cons for each dorm? thanks so much!!

(ps this is gingerdaisys friend on her acct)

Alice Lloyd is newly renovated and you would be one of the first students in the renovated dorm. West Quad (where the MCSP will be in 2012-13 due to East Quad renovations) is ancient.

West Quad is right behind the Union and is in a more convenient location than Alice Lloyd which is on the Hill West Quad is closer to the diag, State St., downtown and the football/basketball venues.

West Quad has a cafeteria in the dorm. Alice Lloyd goes next door to the Hll Dining Center.

If you like one program more than the other, then I would go with the program you like better. If it doesn’t matter, then I would probably go for Alice Lloyd and enjoy the renovations.

West Quad also is a prettier building with a pre-War collegiate design (1939). Alice Lloyd was built in 1949, Those 10 years mean a lot in the world of architecture.

I believe that there are no elevators in WQ so if you end up on an upper floor you’ll be doing some stair climbing. No fun moving in and out either!

Sorry, not a fan of elevators. I don’t care for the waiting and the awkward silences as we wait for the doors to close. I like getting in a little quick exercise on stairs.

From a purely location standpoint West Quad is better, can’t speak to the current dorm conditions or amenities.

West Quad is the clear winner. Seriously, you can’t beat the location. And its dining hall isn’t too bad. if you want, you can just walk across the street to south quad which has better food imo

Son was accepted into the Lloyd’s Hall program and will be living in Alice Lloyd - he’s thrilled. In April, for admitted student day, he met with some of students, who will be returning as RAs this year, and some of the staff and really liked everyone he met - it’s a great group. Also, Alice Lloyd will be the nicest, newest dorm on campus this year. Although it’s on the Hill, it’s still fairly close and an easy walk to central campus and downtown.

More than the dorms, however, which program are you more interested in - the community service or writing and art/Lloyds? The time commitment for the community service program is probably greater than Lloyds, which only has a couple of meetings per month. You also have to join a club in Lloyds, but it’s one of your choosing. I believe you need to submit a porfolio of your work in Lloyds (writing or art) in the Fall, so if writing/art really isn’t your thing, the community scholars program may be a better fit. Son is a writer and enjoys spending his free time…writing, so Lloyds is a great fit. Choose the program that’s the best fit for you…not the dorm.
