I got an amazing offer from a fall admit freshman to take over her housing contract. The offer is legitimate; I've met with her and she assures me that she will not, under any circumstances, give her dorm housing contract to anyone else. With that in mind, I asked her when do we sign contracts or confirm with usc housing so that her contract becomes mine. She told me that we can't sign anything till move in day. Is that true? I just want to secure this offer :)

Sorry if this question is unclear or just plain dumb. I'm a spring admit and everything is just so new!

Yeah… I’ve contacted a few guys over facebook and they said the same thing (Jan 5th). Although, I’ve called housing once and they just said “both of you have to come in…” they said it in a way that seemed like you can do anytime, but what she told you is pretty consistent from what I’ve heard. BUT…It seems some properties like tuscany and gateway are just doing subleases, so they don’t need to wait until move in day.

Tuscany and Gateway are privately owned, so they operate differently from USC housing. Ninja, this sounds normal, but if you’re at all concerned you could write up a letter that you both sign, with the agreement to take over the contract. Probably not necessary, if you know where she is moving to and know that it’s a done deal on her end. Just be sure you have a clear plan that includes this girl being present when you need to move in.
