Has anyone received their housing selection appointment time yet?

As far as I can tell, the whole housing thing is about as clear as mud. DD has somebody requesting her as a roommate, but she can’t figure out how to respond. DD wants special interest housing for first choice, honors housing for second choice and then the regular housing for third choice. But she can’t really confirm or do or select anything until she finds out if she got into the special interest housing. I don’t understand why they can’t have a clearer schedule than this… special hosing decisions/invitations will be sent on such and such a date (presumably before you have to do anything with regular housing decisions)… but there’s nothing. Just a ‘you’ll find out about special interest housing in the middle of the summer’… very frustrating. The kids at RIT are done and have gone home, so there should be no reason that the selection process for special interest housing shouldn’t also be done.

I guess we just have to wait and see.

I know!! I am hoping there is some sort of application/getting everything settled evaluation to complete when we drop the kids off. As much as we already love RIT, I have a little feedback I can offer!!

Have you tried posting on the RIT Housing FB page? I have received some helpful information from the folks who run that board.

The situation your DD is in is absolutely ridiculous.

We have the same issue here as you, Glutenmom - our son is waiting to hear about special interest housing (1st choice), but he cannot work on his 2nd choice (honors housing) until he hears about the special interest. He has had a few inquiries about being someone’s roommate, but he cannot commit to anyone until he hears. I don’t know what is going on with the process - it is frustrating.

My S received his appt this morning. Despite having sent in the deposit at the first possible time, he received a June 10th appt time. This seems sort of late, but then again, maybe RIT changed that time frame like they seem to do with everything else. Has anyone else received theirs?

D got her appt. for June 6. She paid her deposit in the ED window and will be in honors housing.

I just wanted to say, I’m going into the RIT honors program too. I paid my deposit last minute, but I still got a June 6th appointment, probably due to honors. But my roommate(she’s also in honors, which was another thing since we had to figure that out ourselves, nothing was on the roommate survey) got an earlier appointment than I did, and we have no idea how to guarantee that we are in the same room. Nobody at RIT has answered our questions yet. And on top of it, since the roommate window for requests closed, neither of us got a confirmation that our requests were processed when we submitted them a month ago. If anyone knows anything, please tell me, because I’m totally in the dark, and I need to know soon.

So DD did not get into her special interest housing first choice. She was very disappointed by that. But that’s how it goes. So she will be in Honors housing too. We paid at very nearly the very last minute but she has a June 6 housing appointment. They told us that at that time, DD would only be able to see available housing in Gibson Hall (or whatever residence Hall the honors program is in, I think it was Gibson). If she doesn’t like her choices in Honors housing on June 6 or June 7, then she has to wait until June 10 to look at the pool of general housing.

Apparently she can select an open room and take her chances with whomever views her profile and thinks that’s okay… or she can look at any ‘occupied’ rooms that have open beds and select whichever she wants. So if you found a prospective room mate in Honors with an earlier appointment time who picks an open room, there’s no guarantee that when the second person comes along that that other bed would still be open. But the first room mate can change their choice (on the 6th or 7th) … I ‘think’. A good alternative would be for the first room mate to wait until the appointment time of the second room mate and then get on the phone and log into the system at the same time and try to snag an empty room ‘together’. I think that would probably work.

I wish the profiles had a little bit more information in them. They are so general and vague. She had a not-so-great experience with a room mate during the college and careers program last summer so she’s a bit worried about how this will work out. She didn’t appreciate the other girl making fun of her limited food choices due to medical issues and announcing it to all the other kids in the program.

Crossing my fingers that all will work out well…

Glutenmom, if two roommates have already accepted each other, the one with the first appointment is able to assign the 2nd bed to the roommate. I’m not sure if that’s something you were not aware of or just didn’t mention since it didn’t apply to your D. There are instructions for choosing your room on the housing page that include that scenario. I’m curious to see the process tomorrow. I’m assuming that since some upperclassmen in honors will have already chosen, there really won’t be much to choose from.

So DD had her appointment to choose a bed in Honors housing in Gibson hall last week. She found another CIAS major that seemed compatible and reserved her bed. The other girl is a medical illustration major, so I am hopeful that this will work out okay. DD is counting down the days now to move-in day.
