Made deposit, can't select housing

We just put down the deposit for RIT this afternoon. My son is excited that the decision and long process is done!

However, he wanted to go through the housing form but is myRIT id/password isn't letting him do it. Does it take time for the deposit to register before he's allowed to select housing?

You have to have your computer account set up is my understanding. But he still won’t be able to select housing until he completes the housing contract - which he should be able to get through once he clicks on “More information for accepted students” in the portal. Once the contract has been completed, he can search for a roommate(s). Then, between May 21-31, they will send an email telling your son when his room selection appt time is. That will likely be sometime between June 4-14. During that time frame - sooner if he selects a roommate with an earlier appt time, he (or the roommate) can select the room. He should have also received an email with the little How-To guide RIT housing sends out.

Oh, and there is also a FB page for RIT housing. They’re pretty responsive on there.

Thanks Momom2. He does have an account but when he goes to the site to complete the housing contract, it’s not accepting his user id/password. Do we have to wait a period of time after the deposit has been submitted for the contract site to become available?

Did you check the financial aid site to see if the deposit was posted yet? Otherwise, call their IT dept. Everyone here has had trouble with passwords and computer accounts.

Good luck!

I’ll call them today. thanks for the help!

I see you chose RIT over Drexel. So did my Son. Congrats and Good Luck!

Thanks EFCShock. We’re all happy that he made that choice. It’s the right place for him.

BTW, son was able to get into the housing registration site. It just took a day for the deposit to go through.

DD will be going to RIT too, they came through with additional money, she is very happy. We had a cold and blustery day last week at the accepted student’s open house - but I’m glad we went that last time to ‘be sure’.

S picked RIT guess we wil see you all in August…by the way i think that is what month the snow starts.

Make your hotel reservation now… I’ve heard they get booked up for August. We will stay at the same hotel we were at for accepted student’s day.

My daughter chose RIT today and we put down the housing deposit online. Does new student orientation start 8/20?

Congrats to all of you on RIT! We are planning to go to the Fall Open House. What local hotel do you recommend? Thanks!!

Borghugh - freshman move in on August 20, unless they are participating in one of the pre-orientation programs.

Thank you Dadinator. We reserved rooms at the Hampton inn for th 19th-21st.

Hey borghugh, we have reservations at the Hampton for the same dates. Maybe we should all wear “College Confidential” t shirts to identify ourselves at breakfast!

Mamaduck,

lol, if they sold them, I would wear one. My wife and I will be up there with my daughter(maybe with our son, but he may go back to college around the same time). We are coming from Long Island, NY. We are buying some RIT shirts, so maybe i’ll wear my RIT dad shirt.( which will probably embarras my daughter). Where are you guys coming from?

borghugh - We’re in Virginia. My daughter has already selected her roommate, who is from Garden City. You daughter hasn’t chosen a roommate from VA, has she? That would be too funny!

Mamaduck, no my daughter just commited to RIT on Saturday. We are in Suffolk County in a town called East Northport, which is east of Garden City. She was lucky enough to make the honors program so she will be in honors housing. She wants to study physics/engineering. What has your daughter decided for a major?

She’s in Media Arts and Technology.

Mamaduck,

Good luck to your daughter and maybe we will see you up there.
