I'm guessing that our son will be attending PSU-UP in the fall. We haven't received any news regarding financial aid yet (not that we are expecting any), but regardless he will probably be there.

So here is the question, should we bite the bullet and put in the $300 deposit now so he can make is housing requests? Or wait a month or so to see what the financial aid packages are at the other schools before making that decision? Will one month make a difference in what dorm he gets?

I bit the bullett and sent my son’s deposit. I didn’t want to risk his not having a housing choice by waiting to see. There isn’t that much time between when FA awards should come out for PSU, mid March, and May 1st. There will be a rush of deposits within that window. Plus my son’s other schools are very vague about when their awards will be posted/mailed. I might be waiting a few weeks before all the info to compare is available.

I agree. My son was accepted last year, and although he hadn’t heard from all his schools, we decided to send in the deposit to Penn State in February. We are happy we did that. He was able to get his first choice in housing, and he couln’t be happier right now, as he is finishing up his freshman year.
