Housing situation

If say the sleeping habits of your roommate and yourself is drastically different and you are only getting like 3-5 hours of sleep daily will the housing office allow you to change into a dorm or go to a new roommate with same or much similar sleeping pattern. I go to bed at like 11:00 pm fall asleep like 1-3 am. It's because my roommate studies with his little night light and occasionally leaves the room and comes back. I cannot just say please stop leaving and coming back. It's his room like mines. My roommate usually goes to bed at 3-4 AM.

Aside from that the next roommate, the other side of my wall is rudely loud and when I tell him to **** kindly, he always just apologizes and does not change. My RA usually just tells me to talk to the person and then talk to him. That might solve the second problem but the first problem still exists.

I'm considering off campus housing I'm a freshman. Only taking 14 units and managing probably around 3.8 right now. Plan to take 20 or over next quarter, that won't be helped if this sleeping issue continues.

Advice?

Friend of mine bailed out within the first wk of quarter. He had a triple, cancelled his dorm contract and lives off campus in apartment. Have you had a serious conversation with this person ?!? If it gets unbearable, I would bail out of the dorm/housing contract and live in apartment. BTW if you bail out you won't have 2nd year housing guarantee. Good luck.

You can do that but you are going to lose a lot of money. I mean A LOT of money.

You should continue to pursue options with your RA and the Housing Office. As I recall, the one thing they try to match roommates on is sleeping schedule, and obviously they didn't in your case.

With the end of quarter coming up, the office may have a few open slots to play with, given that some students drop out, transfer, etc. at the end of every quarter.

Good luck.
