Would living in FroSoCo mean that I would be socially disconnected from the rest of campus? Is the freshman dorm the best option, and then maybe move to FroSoCo soph year? I do want to meet smart people, and it seems like a lot of them are in FroSoCo.

Assuming you’re a rising 2018 freshman, we’ve been discussing this a fair bit on the facebook page! That might be a good resource :)

The general consensus is that FroSoCo is a love-it-or-hate-it type place. I stayed there during admit weekend, and it wasn’t for me, but I definitely do understand why it would appeal to the right student.
Cons:
-Far away from the heart of campus (10 minute walk maybe? Shorter bike ride obviously)
-Quieter social scene (could be good or bad)
-Smaller dining hall with fewer options
-Divided dorm rooms feel very small

Pros:
-“Far away” isn’t actually THAT far…
-Tight knit community
-Again, quieter social scene could be a pro or a con – you’re more likely to play board games and watch a movie in FroSoCo than play a rowdy game of beer pong, so it just depends what kind of experience you’re looking for! That said, you could always walk to a different dorm and find the opposite social scene
-The kids who live there swear their food is the best on campus, even if the options are more limited
-Divided dorm rooms offer more privacy

Hope this helped! I honestly wouldn’t worry about it too much, it is what you make of it :)

You will meet plenty of smart people in your classes, introsems, dorm, chatting at Tressider - so don’t worry about whether you will meet them at your dorm…they are all over the place ;)
