housing

As for Sims, do only women live in there because its in the "womens quadrangle"? The suite-style halls, don't really look that nice. For columbia hall do you have to be in the healthy carolina wellness and journalism communities?

I am not sure as far as your second question goes but I do know that Sims is an all-girl dorm

So what are everyone’s top five choices?

Right now I have:

 1. Maxcy
 2. Columbia
 3. Capstone
 4. Patterson

I need a fifth and I’m not sure of which order I want… I like the idea of Bates West being apartment style… but I don’t like it being way off campus. Walking three blocks to get on campus doesn’t exactly sound ideal. haha.

I have heard that we can sign up for housing as early as tomorrow. =D

…And will they let you put down Capstone if you’re not in the program? I know that there are some rooms in Capstone that are open to non-Capstone scholars… but I didn’t know if those were just requested or not.

I’ve only thought of Honors Housing so far, and I really hope I get it. I should probably look at other options, though, just in case. I won’t be registering for awhile since I’m waiting to hear from other schools.

AUGirl: I think that’s true. If you go to the housing application on VIP, it takes you to the Housing site which says,

Also saw you sent your deposit in, so congrats!

Sims is girls-only.

You don’t have to be in those communities to be in Columbia.

Bates is on campus - just not the central part of campus. I know that that’s what you meant, but I’d just like to clarify. But yeah, no one enjoys being at Bates when it is raining/bad weather or if you have an 8 AM class or something.

You can request Capstone if you are non-Capstone.

AUGirl, I would put down another one of the women’s dorms or somewhere on the Horseshoe (I know freshmen on the Horseshoe). For the women’s dorms, I’d say South Tower or Sims or something.

It’s possible to be on the Horseshoe as a freshman?

But yeah. That’s what I meant about Bates. XD Being far away from the center of campus seems like it would really suck.

I was thinking about putting down McClintock, but I don’t know if I really want to be in an all-girl’s dorm. Are Sims and South Tower nice?

Is Patterson going to be co-ed or girls only? I’ve heard that it’s going to be co-ed when it reopens.

And how are they giving dorm preference out? Because I’ve read somewhere on their site three different things: 1)By Housing Deposit, 2) By Enrollment Deposit, and 3)By Admission Offer.

Heh… I’m so excited.

And the responses are helpful. =)

I think freshmen on the Horseshoe may just be because of Patterson being closed and the university having to put freshmen where they don’t traditionally put freshmen in order to make sure all freshmen have on-campus housing, but I’m not sure.

I have not heard that Patterson will be coed. I would be a little surprised at that, considering it has always been traditionally female and I have heard stories of freshman girls rooming with RMs (RMs traditionally have singles), so it wouldn’t make sense IMO to put males in Patterson.

I have never been inside South Tower or Sims, but I have a friend who lived in Sims last year and she didn’t have any complaints.

I would think they would do dorm preference by either housing deposit or enrollment deposit. I would guess housing deposit.

Since it sounds like you would probably prefer a co-ed dorm (I don’t blame you, all the more social people I know seem to have been in a co-ed dorm last year), I would stick with Maxcy, Columbia, etc. and then just go with whatever you feel like for the last choice.

Well thanks for the response. It’s been quite helpful.

Has anyone had any luck getting to the housing application on VIP?

Nah.

It isn’t available yet. They keep saying it’ll be available by mid-February and that would be today, I’m betting it’ll be available sometime this week.

I haven’t received any emails and I connected my USC email account to my personal email account.

From Twitter:

@USCColumbia

The housing application for new students will be available mid-February. Accepted students will receive an e-mail when it is available.

Well, it’s available now.

And I submitted my deposit.

I ended up putting:

 1. Capstone
 2. Maxcy
 3. Columbia
 4. Patterson
 5. Sims

Might change… but heh. Simple application.

Glad to have all the basics done.

i dont recommend bates, bates west, or the roost
