Have any of you guys sent in your housing app yet? If so, what did you guys apply for and why?? I'm pretty uninformed when it comes to USC Housing...

P.S. I'm in Annenberg for print journalism..anyone else?

I've sent in my housing app and got a confirmation card in the mail. I put North - ws as my first choice. I heard it has an awesome social scene, and the activities and dorm (sinks!) sounded awesome.
Birnkrant sounded good too, but I stuck with New and North as my top choices.

Can anyone give a quick overview on USC housing, or should I just look at the website and figure it out myself?

There are a couple of lengthy threads on here already about housing, if you do a search you'll find pretty much what you're looking for I expect.

You can always check out the housing website at http://housing.usc.edu. They give descriptions of all the buildings, but in my opinion, they are sort've general and vague. Best way would be to choose one that interests you and ask on the boards to see what people say about it. There are members of CC representing pretty much every building.

If you're interested in living in North, I'm the guy to ask =)

I put Century, because I like the apartment idea. But, I really have no clue.

How about graduate housing -- do most live off campus? What are some prices on a single bedroom apt fairly nearby to campus, in a safe area?

LOL!!!!! USC....safe area....PAHAHAHA.....you jest....this guy

seriously, your in freaking downtown LA/ Inglewood
so in summary, if you step off the campus, you get shot, no question

Hahah, alright - I meant relatively safe. But maybe it really is that bad, I dunno - haven't been there yet...

The school has grad student housing, although I'm not sure where exactly it is, how many live in it, etc. The area isn't that bad; I don't go walking around by myself at night, but I don't do that in my safe little city in NH either, it's common sense. I don't know about the specifics of living off campus, but I did want to refute what brianc said about the neighborhood.

First off, we're not considered downtown, nor are we very close to Inglewood. I've walked around campus alone at 3 AM and have never felt unsafe. Sure, you stay out of dark areas and never make your iPod visible, but that applies to all colleges. Contrary to popular belief, USC is actually very safe.

Most graduate students live in privately-owned housing a few blocks from campus, as do a lot of undergraduate upperclassmen. Housing ranges from about $450-750 depending on where you choose to live. I'm living a couple blocks from campus next year on a street occupied only by students in a townhouse and are paying about $600. Not cheap, but that's how it is all over L.A. And really, there's no part of the North University Park area that's less safe than the others. All are patrolled 24/7 by DPS and are covered by Trojan Transportation so there's no need to walk alone.

Don't make generalizations about the safety of the campus unless you've actually lived here and received a crime report notice from DPS about a fatal crime. Doesn't help anyone.
