I'm filling out my housing app and I have a few questions.

1) Birnkrant is my first choice like a lot of people, but could someone give me some honest opinions about Fluor Tower, Marks Tower, Parkside and New/North. I know there are other threads on this but... they're not very helpful. If I'm not rushing, will I not fit in at New/North? I want to have a good balance of partying and academics. I definitely want to live somewhere where I will have a tight knit group of friends.
2) Is Birnkrant really that hard to get into? If I send my app within the next week, do I have a good shot?
3) I paid the $40 for the housing app, and it says my app is complete even though it isn't. But the app still lets me change the order of my housing preferences. Does that mean I can change them up until May 1 when they make their final decisions?

Thanks! I'm so excited about September. :)

In terms of New/North everyone will say you don’t need to rush you will still fit in and while this is true, keep in mind USC is 25 percent greek but I would estimate about 75 percent of New/North will rush. So its not like you won’t fit in, and theres still people who don’t rush but you will be in the minority. Just a fact, not neccessarily a bad thing and no one like looks down on you for not rushing. But I hope that gives you a sense of it.

If you submitted the app now for Birnkrant you will probably get it.

You can change preferences until May or whenever it is but since you started the app now you will be first in line for those preferences whatever they end up as.

What percentage of Birnkrant rushes?

Wow, thanks Wombat. This is helpful.

I’d say less than half of BK rushes. For girls, it’s definitely WAY less than that. Typically, the majority of Birnkrant is filled with ATPS kids, so it’s a lot different, in terms of personalities, than New/North who is known to be the party dorm filled with Greeks.

At the Explore USC session on March 8th-9th, the housing representative said they have only received 200 housing applications. Obviously, not every one of those people would have put Birnkrant as their first choice, and since there are more than 200 slots in Birnkrant, I’d say you have a good shot. I also put Birnkrant as my first choice! You never hear anyone say anything bad about it.

Try the search function. Last year Nikara posted a long description of dorm choices, amenities, atmosphere and how the rooms were configured. It should give you the information you need.

Hey, I have a muddled question about housing:

I’m going to be a freshman accepted as Production major at SCA and found out there is a floor on New dedicated to Cinematic Arts students. This looks enticing but for the fact that it is in the “party” building. I am not a partying person. Is it worth the community to be in such a building, or is it better to be in a quieter dorm?
