Housing

BJ needs a damn elevator for moving in :P

Neverborn -

How bad could it be? You only have to worry about it 2 days a year. Are you planning on bringing a lot of furniture? A fridge? Other then that it really doesn't matter...

I cant talk much abuot other dorms because I havnt spent much time in them but here is what I can say about max:

I absolutely love it.
The rooms are big for college dorms (compare to other schools or peirce, not to the shoreland which was a luxury hotel).
The suites are pretty cool. You get 3 roommates but only have to live with one of them. You share a foyer area (we keep our fridges and a chair and stuff in there) which is attatched to the two half bathrooms. Its nicer than just one because if you gotta pee when someone is showering, its not a problem.
It's quite close to campus. I leave at 10:20 or even a bit later for 10:30 classes.
It gets to eat at bartlett. Bartlett is awesome compared to pierce and BJ dining halls.
Many houses are fairly social. The building doesnt force it to be social (quite the opposite actually) but if you make everybody get a doorstop and teach them to prop their doors open whenever somebody is in the room at the beginning of the year, you will have a more social dorm for the entire year.
Amenities are nice, its air conditioned and has plenty of electricity (I know people who live in dorms elsehwere that were constructed before everyone had computers and fridges and stuff and they constantly trip breakers) as well as full wireless coverage (the rest of the campus has this too so...not that big a deal).
I actually like the way it looks. It's cheery. I do think it would be nice if they had integrated a little bit of gothic imagery into the modern architecture though.
Underground tunnels. They're fun.

For a bit of a photo tour go here: http://larshansenphoto.com/pa/g2/v/chicago/dorm2005/

Our beds are in an L-shape and my roommates is raised up so there is more storage under it. this created a lot more open space in the room that is only shown in one of the pictures but by now, I think every room in my house has done some variation of this because it works better.
there are some other pictures there taken on and around campus, feel free to look around (its a different perspective than the facebook photos when you get access to them since they are all of people).

Myself - Those are two sad sad days with no elevator. I don't completely rule out B-J (Hell, I'm still waiting on a decision) - but in my apartment here, I have a fridge, a TV, a computer, and a futon.

Snitchcock, in my opinion, had better interior rooms and bathrooms than BJ. the shower stalls in trhe communal bathrooms were more private, and I think the rooms were a little larger. plus, there's this great old fancy meeting room in hitchcock, and an oak-paneled tea room in snell (tho BJ does have that awesome Harry Potter-esque dining hall). my first choice was S-H, 2nd BJ.

Otto-- You make me so stoked to see my (possible) future digs. When did you send in your housing deposit last year? Will it be harder for frosh to get into Max for next fall? I have a medical reason for needing a private bathroom, so that could help my case if for some reason it is extremely popular this year.

Well, I was an EA acceptee so my housing app automatically went above all of the RD entries. Max was certainly not hard to get into from that standpoint as many people get into just fine being RD.

It is true that there are no longer quotas for Max which means its theoretically possible that the only openings in max would be graduating 4th years but thats not the case. There are plenty of people moving out so there will still be plenty of space.
