Opinion of Freshman Dorms? Opinion of male and female sharing same floor - any issues?
My son lives in Taylor Hall on the engineering (LLC) floor and it’s a beautiful dorm, I believe the newest on campus. The dorm also houses the Arts LLC on one floor and there are a couple of floors that are general freshman. I was concerned about mixed gender floors but it hasn’t been an issue as each have their own assigned bathroom.
Thank you!
@100lucky1 Hi again, one additional question. I see you mentioned that your son is on the Engineering LLC floor. If you’re an engineering student can you automatically live in Taylor Hall on Engineering LLC floor if you interested in that LLC - or do you have to apply to live there?
We’re looking at the housing options now - trying to find figure out best option since he will have a lot of classes at the Manassas Sci-Tech campus for Kinesiology and then rowing practice about 20 minutes away. Freshman parking is not the most convenient - we’re think the Commons,
Our D was accepted into the Honors College. We live 5 miles from the GMU campus. We we would save $$ for her to live at home vs living in the dorm, yet still be able to do the Honors experience. D is interested in pre-med track.
Any info to share on the Honors college dorms?
Sorry @HelenH just saw this! You have to apply to live in the LLC. I believe the application opened up around the time of your message. I would highly recommend applying - living in the LLC made the transition to college so much easier.
@fairfaxgator I don’t have any info to share regarding Honors dorms specifically, but will tell you that we too are local and some of my son’s friends chose to live at home instead of the dorms. I can tell you that my son’s experience at GMU has been markedly different from those that chose to live at home. He is more connected to the campus and the GMU community and has had a much more positive experience than his friends who commute daily. Additionally, the commute can be stressful for students, especially those who have early classes. As you probably know, the traffic on both 123 and Braddock in the morning is terrible and parking at GMU is not optimal. All the lots require a long walk to the campus center and fill up quickly. I highly recommend living on campus.
@fairfaxgator I currently live in the freshman honors LLC and I think the experience of living on campus is definitely worth the extra cost. I don’t always love the dining options in the Commons, but I think I’ve had so many more experiences living with other freshman than I would off campus. When you live with other students, there’s the option to spontaneously make plans or study together, which is much harder off campus.
@AcceptMeMaybe Is there a specific dorm for honors students at GMU like for example @VCU? If so, which one.
@AcceptMeMaybe same question - which dorm are you in. What is condition of dorm and bathrooms. Also what is you opinion of Honors core?
Is there a separate Honors College dorm?
@fairfaxgator the Honors LLC is located in the Commons. I’m not sure which building of the Commons.
