Housing

Does anyone know what the best housing is for freshman? Also for roommates does syracuse have any kind of test/quiz of personality to match people?

Housing and roommates are completely random, and there is no roommate questionnaire/ranking.
HOWEVER:
Many people find their own roommates through ■■■■■■■■ or the FB page for your class year. You are allowed to designate a roommate as long as you both choose each other on the housing form.
The freshman dorms also have Living Learning Communities that you can choose. These are groups of kids who share a major or interest (arts, leadership, fitness, education, etc — check the website for a full list and description). Those are housed in specific dorms that are listed, so if you really want a certain dorm, you can choose an LLC.
There really are no bad freshman dorms, and most people seem to really like where they end up. But if there are specific things you want in a dorm (split doubles, single user bathrooms, dining hall in the building, a particular side of campus) the LLC is the way to ensure that. Please do be prepared to participate in the LLC, though, as it’s only fair to the other students.

Typed a longer response but it is being moderated for some reason.
Housing and roommates are random, no questionnaire.

@Amkngk My son was accepted to SU into engineering and is leaning toward bleeding Orange ?? Do you know if students have a better chance at dorm choice if selecting an LLC? We were impressed with Shaw Hall and the STEM LLC.

@spqr70nj I’m not really sure what you are asking. Each LLC is located in a specific dorm. If he chooses one of the STEM LLCs, he’ll be in Shaw. If he doesn’t join an LLC at all, it will be random, so could be any of the freshman dorms or maybe even a non-freshman dorm, though that’s fairly rare. If he’s in Honors, and doesn’t choose an LLC, he’ll automatically be put in the Honors LLC, which is in Sadler. Does that answer your question?

@Amkngk yes sorry for the incoherent question…quickly wrote it while working. Lol. We loved Shaw Hall because of the LLC and it’s proximity to Link Hall (Engineering), and the fact that it is STEM related. When he submits his housing application and checks off the STEM LLC interest, we’re assuming more than likely that he would be assigned there unless there is an overwhelming response to that specific LLC.

@spqr70nj Yes, that’s correct. LLCs are first come first served, but I don’t know how often or quickly they fill up.
