Housing!

Ok so I know this is a popular topic, so for all those who have been accpeted, where are you going to request, Newton or Upper???

And if there are any current students who want to fill us in, PLEASE do!!!

Does anyone know what honors housing is like?

As someone who lives on Newton Campus...I would suggest Newton. Simply because it is quiet and away from "it all". It also has good food, compared to Carneys on upper. I won't deny the fact that newton campus isn't that exciting when it comes to parties, but there can be some really good ones depending on who your RA is, and how strict they are.

newton>upper

for the above reasons, McElroy is terrible, Stuart is so much better

So besides parties, are the dorms on newton nicer??

yes, theyre bigger (11 by 18 as opposed to 12 by 16)

thank you... I think I am going to request upper as most ppl do, but I won't be disappointed if I get newton.

Check out http://www.bc.edu/offices/reslife/lifeinhalls/residencehalls.html

It has info on the different floors and such. I believe that all the Special Housing is on Upper, but don't quote me on that.

As far as Honors housing is concerned, it's in Medeiros Hall. Floor plan can be found here:

As a freshman at BC, I would say that where you end up in terms of housing is not that big of an issue. The main consensus has been that people enjoy wherever they may end up living (of course with a few exceptions). Even though there are some clear perks to living on Upper Campus (attached to Main Campus), those who end up on Newton (one mile away from Main Campus and accessible only by bus ... or walking) find that the benefits outweigh any complexities or annoyances dealt with living on Newton.

Upper Campus does include all of the Special Interest Housing, which includes The Shaw Leadership Program (that I am apart of; I enjoin you all to apply!), Medeiros (Honors Housing), and Healthy Living (in residential hall CLXF). The main perks with upper deal simply with the fact that these students do not have to rely on the Newton bus to get around.

The obvious issues with the bus include:
1. Waiting for the bus, especially in the wintertime
2. forgetting something in between classes and having to travel all the way back to Newton to get it
3. Evening events (club meetings, shows, performances, etc.) are on main campus... which means you need to take the bus
4. The bus stops running at 2am, so if you are on main campus past then get ready to dish out some cash for a cab or walk back to Newton
5. The bus is horrid on game days; the schedules are hectic and traffic is crazy because hundreds of people are trying to get in and out, thus clogging the streets terribly.
6. Getting into the city from Newton usually means having to take two buses: 1) the Newton bus to main campus and 2) the comm ave bus to the reservoir T-stop (if you so choose to go this way, which is the preferred method for many students)

That being said, Newton has many perks as well:
1. Stuart dining hall is a blessing -- I won't exaggerate and say that it's the best food on campus, like many have, but it does have very good food.
2. Going back home on the bus at the end of the day to Newton gives a nice separation between "school" and "home."
3. Meeting people on the bus can be a lot of fun
4. There is a sense of community that bonds people together (although there is just as much of a sense of community on Upper)

As I mentioned earlier in the post, people usually end up enjoying where they are. The main reason is not particularly of anything material-wise. It's because of the people that they meet wherever they may be. So, be a little worried about housing, but not so much because in the end, it's all about the people that you are with.
