I have a quick question for current Emory students. What's better Dobbs, Harris, or Turman (new). Which one has the best single rooms? Which one has the best location and which is closest to the gym? Thanks

Dobbs has no singles. It is the closest to the Woodpec. Turman is only slightly farther from the Woodpec. Harris is a bit farther, maybe a 5 minute walk.

Turman is under construction, so no one has seen it finished. It looks like it's going to be very nice though. The only way to get in Turman is if you are accepted into the new Freshmen Ethics Living-Learning program. I don't know very much about it.

Harris has singles, but I don't know how many of them are reserved for freshmen. Typically they are only for upperclassmen, but I don't know how they plan on doing things next year, because of the new freshmen quad construction. Harris singles are very small, unless you get a super single, which is $1500 or so more per semester.

Dobbs has the best location on campus overall and is the most social dorm. It is also coed by room, but it has small double rooms.

I hate to burst you bubble though...buuut, you can't request a certain dorm room. You can only rank your preference in terms of coed options... like coed by room (girls and boys share a floor), by building (each live in the same building, but floors are single sex) or single-sex building (girls only). And also if you'd like a single or double.

However, the great majority of people are reallly happy with their dorm! And Complex (which is a bit farther away), has its own little gym. I loooove mine (Trimble)...although it'll be for sophmores next year.

harris will be all freshmen next semester

Dobbs has the best location, but that's about it. The new Turman fits your criteria perfectly- I'd go for it. Harris is a nice dorm, but I don't know much about its dorm community. I believe dsouthren has a single in Harris.

dsouthren does have a single in harris and he LOVES IT. harris is really a very nice dorm (supposed to be for sophomores/freshman), but now they are making it for freshman only.

its a wonderful place-the emory campus is really not large at all

it is right across from the library, easy access to the quad, close to the schwartz center and b-school, and acccess to the small gym in complex(treadmills and some other workout stuff including rowing and biking and other aerobics) for those days where you dont want to lift but want to do some cardio....

do it

I'll be in Harris next year...I'm a sophomore advisor

What is the ethics learning-living program? All of New Turman is completely reserved for those students?

It's going to be a special program that freshman can apply for after admissions into Emory. It'll be like a miniapplication. It's all about community living and living together with a common goal/idea.

I'm not sure if that's 100% accurate, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

A little clarification... the original "Ethics Living-Learning program" is a concept that evolved from the Emory Center for Ethics and forms the foundation of a program/community that took shape a few years ago. Called BASE (Bridging Academics, Service, and Ethics at Emory), it brings together a group of upper division students, faculty, and his/her family, to reside in a living-learning model in community. This community is resident at the Clairmont Campus.

You can find more information about BASE here: http://base.emory.edu/

For incoming Freshmen, a new themed community concept is planned, and that is called ?Citizenship: Your Passport to Emory!? I don?t know much about it, but it sounds very intriguing. More information should be forthcoming soon about this themed community, which sounds as if it borrows from the BASE concepts.

For freshmen, here?s a link that will give you some helpful information about Housing (it also has a link to the application for ?Citizenship: Your Passport to Emory!?, as well as links to housing applications, options, etc.) :
