If you are an incoming freshman (already been accepted), is it possible to room with a junior or sophomore that's staying in the dorms? A friend of mine wants to do this so he doesn't get the crappy freshmen dorms.

No, the housing priority is based on the person with the lowest number of terms completed in Michigan housing so the sophomore or junior would get stuck in freshman housing if they decided to room with a freshman.

Okay thanks.

Actually, it's possible (assuming returning students haven't done the housing lottery yet). You would have your older friend sign up for a double with someone who is actually planning on moving off-campus, and then you could do a contract reassignment. In a contract reassignment, a person who signed up to live in the dorms can reassign their contract to a freshmen who has not already signed a housing contract. There's info about it on the housing website.

You might want to call the Housing office to ask this question. I would not be surprised if there is not a way for your older friend to work it out so that he is "holding" a spot for the freshman. By now, the older students have already chosen their rooms - but I think there are still spots in a few of the Central Campus halls.

can a male freshman room with a female freshman>!??

not in the residence halls.
