Housing

A student at HOVA (My second choice after fulbright) said that if you liked to party Thurston was the hall but if not stick well clear. Hope this helps.

I'm going out for HOVA, it looks amazing. Fulbright is far too cramped for me, and the prospect of a quad or triple room frightens me to death-- I would not get along with two or more girls, I am absolutely sure of that.

As for Thurston, lol! My tour guide said the only way he'd go into Thurston was with a biohazard suit and a condom. That dorm goes to the bottom of my list.

lol! Hadn't heard that about Thurston, although I knew it was known for being one of the more..."active" dorms. :)

Decisions, decisions. I'm visiting next Monday, so I'm going to wait to make my decision then. Can't wait!

yeah, i heard about thurston being the partayy dorm. i think i'm going to go with HOVA, despite it's distance from the center of campus it looks really nice.

i sent in my deposit a few days ago so hopefully i'll be able to make my choice soon!

is HOVA to far from ESIA? should I chose a dorm that is closer?

HOVA's a good deal from ESIA, whereas Thurston is actually on the same block, if I remember correctly.

I am really happy about the maid service.

lol, definetly. :D

Hey, does that cost extra, because I don't remember reading anywhere that it does/doesn't?

It's included. A maid comes every week to clean your bathroom, etc.

is the maid servicing only for thurston? or is it available at HOVA too?

it's only at HOVA and a few of the other formerly hotel halls, not at Thurston.

http://gwired.gwu.edu/hc/ViewResidenceHalls/
in thurston's description, it states there is housekeeping.

if i send in my money now for thurston am i likely to get it?

Does anyone know what lafayette is like? I got into the honors program but i don't know if i want honors housing or not yet.

i hear that you should be reallllly nice to your maids or they can make your life hell.

I just visited the campus on Monday--had a great time! A few things I learned about housing:

Housekeeping is at ALL dorms (at least frosh dorms)

HOVA is by far (way far) the nicest of the dorms as far as the actually building itself, room size, overall cleanliness, etc. However, it's also a few blocks from what I consider the actual campus, and it still looks very much like a hotel

Thurston is pretty old, as is Lafayette and Fulbright. They tend to be the more traditional image of what you would think the "traditional" college dorm looks like. Thurston is by far the largest.

All of these dorms--HOVA, Thurston, Lafayette, and Fulbright--are all frosh dorms. There are also two other frosh dorms--Mitchell and Somers (the latter of which is on the "vern") --which I didn't get a chance to visit.

Anyway, hope this info helps. At this point, I'm trying to decide between Thurston and HOVA.

thanks josh! i visited the campus recently as well, and we only got to see thurston- and from what i saw, it wasn't all that great. however, i ran into a friend on campus and she advised me that hova was definitely the best... if you don't mind the long walk.

BTW, I've decided to put HOVA and the Elections and Campaign Strategy LLC as my primary choice, and Thurston as my secondary. All the rest I find a little too small for my liking.

i'm turning in my enrollment tomorrow, so i probably can't choose housing until next week sometime..
i hope hova or thurston aren't already filled up, that would suck.

How long did everyone have to wait to receive the housing packets after sending in the enrollment deposit? I sent in my deposit about two weeks ago and have not gotten anything in the mail about housing.
