How’d you find this out???

On bannerweb. Login to Bannerweb, click student records & registration, then click registration, and then click check your registration status, click fall 2009, and scroll down until you see your commons.

Thanks Bicycle!!

I guess there is still much to learn as to dorms if I understand it, but it says Ross Commons. He’ll like eating in flip flops. :-)

@Modadunn-- thats awesome! I’ve heard Ross is nice. Hadley is all singles and suites, if i’m not mistaken.

Ross has doubles as well. It is nice for those who are science majors do to its location near Bi Hall.

He was definitely happy. He said he remembered the tour guide saying there was even a small gym in there or something and there was a guy who lived there that even took a class in that commons and never had to go outside for the entire J Term! This is what impresses? But S is thinking science at this point, so… this is good as well. Hope he gets as lucky with a roommate, although I honestly think boys are more easy going about compatibility in this kind of thing more so than girls. In other words, it’s not nearly as complicated with guys.

What is Atwater Commons’ freshman dorm(s) and can somebody please describe them (size of room, general atmosphere, proximity to gym, library, classes, etc…)?

The dorm for Atwater would be Allen, it is a bit isolated from the library, gym, and main academic buildings as it is on the far north side of campus, but from what I hear from people who lived there it is a great dorm and a good social experience. You also have a dining hall right next to the dorm, which is convenient.

Aren’t they closing the Atwater dining hall? Do any dorms have pool tables in them? Tennis Courts behind them? Weight Room? Or do Atwater kids have to go on a troop for everything but laundry?

I believe there are tennis courts behind Allen Hall. Also, Atwater’s dining hall will be open fall semester due to renovations taking place in Ross Commons’ dining hall. Spring semester, Atwater’s will be closed and Ross’ will open.

Going to the gym/weight room is a trek for pretty much everyone except people in Stewart… Kinda annoying.

Is it true that there is a weight room and small library in Ross Commons? If so, are students from other Commons allowed to use them?

Um, I think so. At least there’s a weight room. I’ve never used it though because the real weight room is just so much better. The library is probably like the one in the Atwater suites–small study lounge with tables, a shelf of books and a bunch of empty shelves. But I’ve never lived in Ross, so I’m not really the one to ask.

they closed the workout room in Ross due to malfunctioning equipment.

While there are a lot of singles and suites in Ross… how would it be to not have a roommate your freshman year. When I said to S that there seems to be a lot of singles in Hadley, he looked a little bummed. I think it’s more about having an instant someone to walk into a room (dining hall, meeting, etc) with, but also he’s always been the only boy around here, his own room, own bathroom and so maybe he will appreciate the familiar of not having to “share” space. I just wish they’d let him know. At this point, we’ve done nohting about what he might need for his room because we have no idea what we’re talking about. They don’t exactly share a lot of dorm pictures on the website.

To be honest modadunn, from what you’ve said about your son, it sounds like he’s pretty outgoing and won’t have too much trouble making friends. Besides, if he’s on the football team, he’ll have a built in group of friends from that. However, having said that, I think it IS beneficial having roommates, for the same reasons I thought it was beneficial to live in Battell. I knew very few people who had singles Freshman year, but each one had plenty of friends (except one, but he ended up being the valedictorian of our class, so who knows).

I don’t know if outgoing is applicable in this situation. I am sure if the majority of people have singles or whatever, it will be fine, but it would be nice to know since almost everyone of his friends not only know their roommates, but have the room stuff divided and accounted for. They said they’d let students know the end of July/beginning of August. We’re past the end of July. But while there is still no word on the roommate thing which is disappointing, they do have breadloaf rooms available for parents weekend that you can register for online now. And since I didn’t jump on making the hotel reservation the minute S was accepted, we’ll be staying there for parents weekend. I am sure, however, that the views will be absolutely incredible the first weekend in October.

the word on the street is we hear tomorrow! they should be up on bannerweb

You do realize that Middlebury officially stated awhile ago that Housing info would be up on Aug. 4th? Sheesh.

Actually, I do recall that date, and I think I had it in my head that it was the first monday. Then again, in several things it said, “end of July/beginning of August.” I finally dug out the orientation thing (still don’t see “aug 4”) so I could at least start shopping for some of this room stuff - S cares zilch about half of it - so I can figure out shipping etc. and while they might put it up on Banner Web, it says in this book that notification of this stuff (housing/roommate) will come via email (but I suspect it will send you to bannerweb).

Also… just noticed this picture request thing… Old/New… casual/senior… Older daughter’s school made a booklet with everyone’s face and their name/dorm/etc so you could get to meet the kids in the entire freshman class. It was nice because you could learn names. I thought it was great because like me, my older D is horrible with names.
