It’s the 4th! :)

What kind of stuff, if any, do they have in the “lounge” portion of a suite? And if it’s nothing, what do kids usually do? Do they have cable for TV?

Anyone else here in Hadley? I got a single, which seems to be the trend for most people in Ross (either that or a single-double/suite) :S

*Also… just noticed this picture request thing… Old/New… casual/senior… Older daughter’s school made a booklet with everyone’s face and their name/dorm/etc so you could get to meet the kids in the entire freshman class. It was nice because you could learn names. I thought it was great because like me, my older D is horrible with names. *

Moda, I think pretty much every school that isn’t a factory does some variant of this. At Midd they used to call it “New Faces” back in the day. Of course, being sophomoric freshmen, we called it “New Feces.” Ah, college.

Of course, you did. :-)

Modadunn, what is the URL of the site you used to reserve rooms at the Bread Loaf Campus? Do you think they’re still taking reservations?
Thanks!

[Fall Family Weekend 2009](http://www.middlebury.edu/campuslife/events/fall_family_weekend/fall_family_weekend/)

The registration form is right on there… and I would imagine if they were filled, they’d have taken down the link by now. Please be advised that you will need your visa or mastercard to pay the bill in advance.

I am bumping this thread because there has to be someone who might know this stuff… :)

What kind of stuff, if any, do they have in the “lounge” portion of a suite? And if it’s nothing, what do kids usually do? Is there a place to buy a couch or a futon close to campus? Do they have cable for TV in these suites? And lastly, I noticed that there was an email saying they were replacing carpet on some floors of Hadley. Does this mean that the rooms are carpeted or is this just applicable to the hallways?

There is a couch in the lounges. Carpet is being installed in the hallways. Freshmen/women aren’t allowed cable in suites.

Wait a minute… are we saying that women aren’t allowed cable ever and men are only disallowed cable as freshman? That seems rather sexist indeed!

So much for attempting to save bandwidth. Tried to be PC.

Freshmen/freshwomen or firstyears, lest anyone doesn’t wish to be gender-specific… Better? ;)

Edit: Where you a copy editor in a past life? :)

As a matter of fact, I was! Very long ago past. But that has nothing to do with my bone-headed confusion here. I guess I am just not that PC in the grand scheme. But surely the powers that make those decisions understand that it doesn’t take cable to play XBox (unless you are playing with the internet world or whatever that is that hooks them to an online “community”). So much for c-span then. :)

I was just talking to a friend whose D is going to Williams. She got a letter in their “stuff” that said don’t really go shopping for stuff for your room/suites. There is a huge garage sale the weekend school starts or the next. That actually sounds like a great idea, especially when youre traveling a far distance.

Bone-headed! Not at all. I was oblivious to the error and the fact an intelligent person might interpret the sentence exactly as I wrote it.

For a real treat, visit Dartmouth immediately after the students have escaped for the summer. Amazing G sale of stuff left behind. I almost bought a baseball cap with a helicopter propeller top. Don’t ask. :o

Wonder why Middlebury wouldn’t do the same, although I did hear they had a great sale of bikes last spring! I am hoping there might be another in the fall as it has got to be less expensive than shipping bikes across the country to let them sit outdoors until snowfall. I imagine that after four years a lot of bikes are left behind.

Where’s the closest Good Will? I can’t imagine any college expecting students to buy new couches or comfy chairs for dorm rooms/lounges. And if Midd does, than that scares my wallet hugely.

Middlebury’s big sale/giveaway was at the beginning of the summer. If you want to scrounge for stuff for your room or suite, just head down to the recycling center as soon as you get on campus (the good stuff goes fast).
