Housing

Hi everyone! I was accepted to UCSD for this fall 2010..I'm really excited after a long time of doubting the school, but i have ONE BIG CONCERN!

HOUSING!

i'm in ERC, and i heard we have the best dorms. How likely is it that i'll get a room at erc instead of the revelle fleets? i'm worried. Help! I submitted my housing application two weeks ago.

What is the date you submitted your application? My year (two years ago) almost everyone who submitted in March got their first choice of room (ie, we were put in doubles). Everyone who submitted until like, early-mid April got triples, but were placed in ERC. Nearly everyone who submitted at the end of April were placed in revelle.

Just want to add that it’s not the hugest deal if you are placed in revelle. You’ll be with other ERC students and Revelle has some really good qualities, like a late-night market and a lib that’s open 24/7 10th week and finals week. Don’t stress too much, they have fun in revelle too :)

really? i reaalllly don’t want a triple. they seemed really cramped, and i have OCD so being in a super cramped room would KILL me.

our tour-guide said revelle was TERRIBLE. she scared me lol

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but unless you turned in your app in March or the very very beginning of April you will likely get a triple. Most people in the ERC dorms are in triples. At least it’s only for 9 months? But I completely understand, the triples in ERC are TINY compared to other colleges.

I mean Revelle dorms are definitely older and they aren’t as “pretty” as ERC dorms-worse fluorescent lighting and green carpet, blegh- but you’ll still meet cool people and have a good college experience. I knew people in ERC who were so upset about getting placed in Revelle they immediately got on the waitlist to move into ERC, and when the opportunity arose, they didn’t end up moving, hahaha.

PS, are you going to orientation in june? I would recommend it - the guy in charge of housing (Rey) explains your options very well and you also might stay in a triple so it gives you a better sense of what you want to do before the contract is due (june 30, i believe)

I might. I just looked into it. Are there two orientations?

ERC generally offers 3-4 sessions in June that you can choose from and then 1 session in September. if you choose the september session you get to move into your real room a few days early, however, since you register for classes in August, it’s helpful to have gone to the June session because they explain GEs and registration and all of that very clearly, along with housing stuff.

In all fairness, Revelle’s triples are huge.

yeah…i’m going to the orientation in june. i need to get my things under control before i move eight hours away lol so i guess i should call ucsd and find out what i should do if my sister and i fly out to the june orientation. ahh :)

Don’t worry they’ll send you tons of information on registering for orientation… watch for it in May.
