my comments - take for what it is, my opinion.
My daughter lived in Callaway House as a freshman. She had access to the full Callaway house meal plan. It was not opened early enough for her to eat breakfast most mornings with her 8am classes. Her 8am classes were about as far away as you could get from Callaway. She was not there for lunch, often she would take one of the Callaway brown bags with her on her long days in class. Evenings was when she would be able to eat at Callaway. She grew tired of the food quickly - ended up eating out a bit, buying food from grocery store and eating sandwiches, cereal, and microwaveable food. So end the end, cafateria food wasn’t great. She is a fairly picky eater I must admit.
If you opted for apt living - you can find one in the $500 range easily that has full amenities and roommate matching service. They will try to match you with your own class. You can still buy a meal plan on campus if you want - or you can learn to eat college kid cheap on your own. I’m thinking for the money we paid at Callaway house - $1150 a month or so - she could have eaten pretty well for the extra $650 a month.
It was a good experience for her living in Callaway House, close to 100% freshmen.
But she is very much looking forward to next year living in a duplex.

And as a note: Callaway House is closed over Christmas break - no food service over Spring break - and you pretty much have to be cleared out the last day of finals. And I’m pretty sure it is the same for the other two off campus dorms. Move it is the week before school starts.

Y’all should check out The Lofts at Wolf Pen Creek. If you have roommates, the prices are fairly reasonable, and they have GREAT amenities (only been open a year)! (On the bus route, awesome gym, stores on the first floor, etc) I currently live there, and my little brother (who will be a freshman) just signed a lease too.

My daughter is going to be a freshman and living at the lofts in the fall.
The lofts have a two bedroom 2 bath --with 2 students in each room for $429. I don’t know if that is available anymore. My daughter is living in a 4 bedroom, 4 bath–2 floors for $649. The prices are per person. Electricity is not included, but everything else I think is included. I also felt that the money they were charging for food at the dorm style apartments was a lot…I thought this was the next best thing. This is a new place and is very nice. I felt pretty safe there too.

Thanks for the opinions klparker. Cause having a meal plan has been one of the things I’ve been worrying about the worst. My mom is worried cus I can’t cook but if the foods not great anyway then noodles & cereal work just fine for me
Well then the cheapest i’ve seen is the Callaway Villas at about 550 & The woodlands at 615
& i guess i could look at more apartments & the lofts
Thanks for everyones tips

The Lofts look REALLY nice from the pictures on their website…

so is the 4 bedroom the best price since you don’t have to share your bedroom with anyone else, so you have your own privacy? It’s apparently $600 something for this.

I also called and the guy said there’s the 2 bedroom where you share an apartment with three other people, so two people to a room ($429 or something)…and there’s the 2 bedroom where you share an apartment with just one other person, so you have your own personal space ($750? something like that).

And does anyone know anything about the parking at The Lofts?

All those places are really expensive…If you want cheaper but nice still apartments try the heights, the zone, the district. Those are around five hundred a month for every thing. OR rent houses thats the cheapest. Im paying 400 a month next year in a real nice house.

I toured the lofts… they were GREAT, lots of things to do it seemed, but they were sold out of the two bedroom and the four was quite expensive for an incoming freshman. So, me and my roommate went with the Polo Club! Visited, and the actual housing is pretty old looking, but the inside is spacious and the rent is almost nothing for all the amenities you get! I’m happy with the decision!

I went with College Edge. Since I’ll be both a blinn & A&M student it’ll be nice since it’s right behind the blinn campus & a shuttle comes for A&M frequently. I got a four bedroom/2 bath for $350 a month & i got a free $100 gift card for signing my lease! & it’s a really nice place & has lots of activities just like in a dorm…
