Houston/BCM housing and parking

My D moving to Houston this August (may start renting before that) for Baylor College of Med. and is looking for something to rent. Right now is set on sharing with 2 others and they want a 3 bedroom/3bath and all three have cars. We know prices and availability better on 2 bedrooms but there are circumstances that right now dictate that search.

I will take any advice on areas to live/how far away is practical for a med student. On train line or are buses in Houston workable? Also, most places she has seen have room for one car and no on street parking. (So far looking at townhouses in gated communities 30 minutes away.) Where do the extra cars go? Would an apartment complex be better than renting a townhouse, most likely from an owner?

thanks for your help!

I’m no expert but have some general experience getting around in the Med Center area. 30 minutes away is too far for a med student, because that time is most likely under the best circumstances. I would be looking for something off Braes Bayou, South Main, Kirby or Fannin areas. Be sure to ask about flooding in the area and don’t rent where there is underground parking. Try for inside the Loop or near the Loop for ease of access. At some complexes, you can pay for additional parking spaces. A train could take her directly to Baylor.
