How am I doing? (Freshman)

For some reason, I remember him posting around. I thought he was graduating too. lol.

I didn't realize that EC's/GPA mattered SO MUCH until I hit junior year...which was too late. Part of it might be because I am first-generation to go to college? or I was just to lazy or ignorant of things like that...Anyway, just do what you do.

Which would explain your username, OmgItsCollege. I can see the confusion in your head as you prepare for the unknown that has been already uncovered by this wonderful forum, CC.

Yeah, I'm Asian.

Thanks for all the input, guys. Keep it coming.

Well, something else special about me is that I have lived on 3 continents, 3 countries, and 8 cities.

I don't know if that'll help at all though.

What if I started doing research during the summer?

Doing research during the summer is fine-it is what most do who have no time during the year to undertake the workload. And being an international would really help if you were fluent in all of the languages of the countries in which you lived-colleges like trilinguals.

Might be a hook or something you'd like to talk about in your essays maybe? Also, make full use of your summers.

lol @ kman

That's another thing--I proficiently speak 4 languages (2 I'll study in high school: English, Spanish, Malayalam, French, and I write Hindi.

Is it a big deal that i kinda play 4 instruments (piano, violin, accordion, guitar) but have not really gotten any awards for this in HS? I'm sort of like a jack of all instruments but master of none (except piano, which is the only instrument I take lessons for).

I think it's better if you focus on one instrument and have a lot of awards rather than playing four instruments. Same logic goes with almost anything else. Prolly want more quality.

is college board still offering free sat?

Sure. That'll be a great essay or short story. How you moved around. Just. Don't load up on courses you don't want to take. Do something fun. Go abroad. etc. Going abroad is probs the funnest thing you can do.

You should try to master the one you like most if you want to go somewhere with it. I chose euphonium from trumpet, piano, viola, and the steel drums.

jason4444:
Not unless your school pays for it-some do. Mine will only pay half price for the APs, however.

That's pretty sweet. Study Hindi at your local universities. That'll drive people wild. If you take a course that like NO ONE offers, they'll basically want you becasue their programs are so small they need more people. EXG a lot of people in Russian and Japanese got into places because those places needed more Japanese and Russian students to keep up their Japanese and Russian programs while the French kids were just meh, because everyone takes French or Spanish.

^what about Latin?

Are you serious, Kirei na Neko Ku (long name lol)? Would schools like HYP like that? I really like the idea but the main problem is transportation and tuition.

I'll really have to refresh my skills this summer though since I may have gotten a bit rusty.

bump10char

You can attend Houston Bellaire High School, which has such offerings, if you really want to attempt that kind of a language.

I think you already know the answer to that question?

Wow. You sound like a really awesome person. Keep it up.

One of my friends goes there--it's like a language magnet school.
