I am an 8th grader and will be going to high school next year. I don’t know what classes and APs I should take next year. In my schedule I am taking:
HS Biology
HS Geometry
I also have a Spanish 1 credit under my belt. I plan to go to an IB school for high school.
Typically, very few APs are offered to underclassmen, so I wouldn’t worry about those right now. AP Human Geography is the most common one, but it usually isn’t crucial to take it since it is a “lighter” AP compared to more rigorous social studies courses, such as the AP Euro/US History classes. Make sure you have the prerequisites for AP courses you would like to take in later years.
Competitive colleges often recommend biology, chemistry, and physics (at any level), plus one at an AP/advanced level, foreign language through level 4, and completion of Pre-Calculus at the high school level or higher. APUSH and AP English Language are also pretty popular classes, from what I’ve heard. At the most competitive colleges, a maximum of 6-8 APs/Dual Enrollment/IB or other equivalent spread out throughout all of high school is sufficiently rigorous. From what you’ve said here, you’re off to a respectable start and I don’t see how it would be an issue for you to fulfill all of these recommendations/requirements.
What would your full schedule look like?
