2-3% of new students being transfer students is a pretty small commitment to transfers. For comparison, the fall 2020 entering students at USC included 29% transfers, including 15% transfers from California community colleges (some of those listed as being from US colleges outside of California may have been from community colleges as well).
I agree that USC is a leader in the community college transfer game and more schools should follow suit. Amherst College being a small school and called a champion, tells us that there must be a lot of qualified community applicants being left out at colleges. I’m all for encouraging the building of programs. Amherst College is headed in the right direction, and since they are eliminating legacy applicants, it would be nice to see the shift show up in community college transfers.
