I am attending Penn State in the Fall and I am korean. I am wondering how Asians are treated.

Simple…

Your going to college if someone treats you in a negative manner that person needs to go back home and get some lessons from Mom and Dad. If my DS ever treated someone in a negative fashion times would get tough for him in a hurry!

Enjoy college for the mature people that will have a positive influance in your life, there will be many. Anybody that does otherwise will quickly be lost themselves. Their treatment form negative behavior will show and it will be them that has a difficult time, not you. My DS is attending a large University and I have noting but good things to say about what I know and saw. Is it perfect, no but nothing will ever be that way.

Be confident, get yourself out there and get involved in things. I have been to PENN ST, there will be plenty for you to do. Whatever you do “DO NOT” lock yourself in your room!! Get out there smile, meet and greet. Enjoy your 4 years and spend as much of your parents mony as you can…LOL!

I wish you all the very best and I’m certain you will soon meet many new friends. It’s not high school anymore!

I actuall dated a wonderful Korean woman for sometime back in the day. She was quite the person, we were just too young.

Are you an Asian American or International Asian ? What Major ?

Saw tons of Asians Americans there. Engineering is one of the most diverse program.

Asian american. Born and raised in Cali
International relations/poly sci

It’s ultimately going to depend on who you hang near with. If someone bothers you, just ignore them.

I know this is a bit late, but I’m a current undergrad student at Penn State. I agree that it does depend on who you hang out with on campus. I was roommates with an international student from China for two years and I’m actually a member of the Filipino Club right now. As far as I know, it hasn’t been a huge issue for them when comparing it to any other place. There are many cultural groups on campus which are connected with the Paul Robeson Cultural Center. If you want more info you can contact them.

honestly, no one cares unless they’re drunk, and you can just ignored them because the chances are, they won’t even remember you the next day. Also, there is Korean Student Association in Penn State and almost 90% of them are Korean Americans. Then there is some other club for international kids, but not too sure what they do.

A ridiculous topic and question. I’m currently here for Summer and no one gives a flying what race you are. It’s 2013 not 1953.

Fizz14…not a ridiculous question at all. I think it is a valid concern for certain minorities attending colleges OOS. I am also from California and I have similar questions about diversity and inclusion.

It’s 2013 at Penn State just like in California.
