How are athletes recruited at Exeter & Andover??

Do applicants contact coaches directly if they are serious athletes ? Or, do AO's hand over that info to the coaches and then the coaches contact the student/athlete? Also, I assume schools are more forgiving when it comes to grades, scores, etc.., but how much so?

its both… usually the students reach out to the coaches first before admissions. it depends on the sports and some years some sports are given more priority or spots cause of the size… for instance football on an annual basis will get about 9 if not more, while girls lacrosse will get one or two if they’re lucky…

regarding the grades, scores, forgiving factor it again depends on the sport and level you play at. Post grads sometimes get more slack but not always. A lot of athletes at both Exeter and Andover are very smart individuals, and do not really slack academically.

Thank you, YupLifeisSweet! What sports are considered most popular at Exeter & Andover? If you had to rank them, what would you say are the top 7 or 8 at each school?

Perrier2468: at PA, lots of recruiting goes on for the following sports (the first one is the most, the rest are in no particular order)

baseball
football
hockey
swimming
lacrosse
crew
xc

^^^the above are not actual stats, but observations

I would have to say that most new england prep schools are very focused on building strong hockey teams over baseball.

Good luck on your exams swimdude! So, it sounds like the following teams are not so popular?- basketball, tennis, golf or soccer.

At Exeter, it seems that the hockey, soccer, and basketball teams are largely made up of recruits. Football and lacrosse also have a lot of recruits. Some recruits are good at multiple sports, so it’s sometimes hard to determine what they were recruited for. Tennis would be lucky to have, like, one recruit. I’ve never seen any recruits for golf.

i don’t think its fair to list… though for e/a i see a lot of football, hockey, basketball, and lacrosse
