What is the chance of me getting into Exeter if I am a recruited athlete. My grades are decent (3.2 gpa), I am in a variety of clubs, 80 percentile ssat score (I know not great), and I excel at a sport enough for the coach to recruit me and tell me he would support my application. He also told me that since this is exeter their are no guarantees (which is understandable given their acceptance rate.) Can anyone parent/student/past recruit give me an idea of what I should expect? This could be for any of the "elite schools" since the acceptance rates are similiar.

Note: I didn't list all my clubs or all my extracurriculars etc. In this thread because it annoys me when people list every single accomplishment they've ever had on this board. I Just want to know in general how are recruits handled?

I dunno about these top boarding schools, but for college, you can certainly get it for great athletic abilities, but less academically. However, in these top boarding schools, they are looking for rounded individuals both excelling academically, physically, and perhaps more inclined to their society (more Extra-curriculars). To me, exeter, andover, etc are more academic than athletic. Just my opinion.

Im applying as a junior/or sophomore (whatever), and I have good grades, and i play for many of my school teams (though i doubt im as good as you (as your a recruit)). Therefore, im not sure, i would definitly work on improving your GPA though, and maybe consider retaking ssat? Note the acceptance rate is like 20%..... very very very low

Dont take my advice if you dont want to. lol. good luck on your apps.

As Luc said, Exeter is a very highly academic school. You may want to retake the SSATs (study, study, study) and try and get the GPA up to at least a 3.5. ECs can decide whether or not you go, so hopefully you have a lot on your list. Good luck. :)

I am applying as an athlete/music student, specifically. I play the oboe religiously and volleyball 10 out of 12 months of the year. I have spoken to coaches and conductors, and yet, you can NEVER tell as to your admissions status form one aspect of your application. But good luck to you!
