I’m a transfer student and none of my CC classes curved as it was pretty easy. I’m taking a physics course, and I’m managing to get around 94-95% on both of my midterms. The first midterm had an average score of 72%, and the most recent one I took had an average of 58%. The professor said he would curve the overall grade so the average is a B-, NOT the midterms, and I was wondering if he curved my grade would go down if he did. Thank you!
You won’t know until the end of the course since he’s curving the overall grades. There are a lot of ways to curve, but basically, you take the whole class at the end of the course, and rank from top to bottom, then split into pools for A,A-,B+,B, etc. and the majority chunk of the class is whatever you’re ‘curving to’ be it a B or C or whatever the professor wants.
The actual procedure is more complicated, and depends on how much you want to standardize the overall class performance… You’re doing a lot better than average, so you probably shouldn’t worry too much about it.
