How are Colgate's Political Science and Economics programs?

I love Colgate, but i'm comparing it to U of Pitt's and American's nationally ranked polisci programs so...

can Colgate even compare?

I would love to offer some perspective and advice but I am not clear what information you are seeking.

Putting the academic programs at these large universities aside, I trust that you have evaluated the course offerings, the institutes, lecture series and faculty backgrounds of Colgate in a comprehensive manner in terms of your current interests. I assume that you are familiar with the style of teaching that you can expect at Colgate as well.

Colgate is one of the top undergraduate liberal arts colleges in the US. The contrast in terms of size, scale and purpose is straightforward enough but you will want to work through the details. I have always thought that one of Colgate’s particular strengths is that it is somewhat larger than most of the liberal arts colleges in its peer group. This does indeed afford certain opportunities akin to those at large universities.

Good luck with your efforts. I hope you are happy wherever you choose to enroll!

Political science and economics are two of the strongest departments at Colgate.

I think the answer to your question is yes.

I am a Colgate Alum and was a political science major. The dept was terrific and the Washington Study Group is an experience like no other. I may be wrong but I think it is the oldest study abroad program in the nation. The alumni contacts are also amazing . Congrats

Both programs are among Colgate’s best. You will find Colgate offers a stronger academic program in the liberal arts than schools like Pitt. Of course, comparing these two universities is like comparing apples and oranges in most ways. If you want an urban, large university, Colgate isn’t that. But, in the area of academic quality, Colgate is first-rate.
