in other places on CC, i've read about female engineers and awful stories of discrimination in the workplace.

how are female engineering students treated in the classroom? personal stories?

just curious

Seems like they’d be treated like gods.

Just like everyone else from what I’ve seen.

Like everyone else. Most of the time they won’t get “hit on” in classroom settings because:

1) the majority of engineering girls aren’t very attractive
2) guy engineering majors are too shy and nerdy to make any moves
3) combination of 1 and 2
4) it’s engineering, class is more interesting LOL

anyone else?

i dont see any difference than in any other class. yeah there are less girls, but who even notices unless theyre keeping tabs. i do mostly have male friends, however. but its always been that way for me haha.

I 100% agree with these, especially #1.

hahaha that list is true. i have a friend who goes to an engineering school who has mentioned those things in the past. occasionally we’ll hang out and we’ll see some girl he thinks is hot. and i look at him a bit confused and tell him, “really?” his response is usually, “hey man I go to an engineering school, an avg looking girl is hot.” other times he’s actually broken down the percentages of hot girls at his school. student pop is 15% girls. of that 15%, 5% of them are hot. of that 5%, 90% are taken and in relationships. perhaps its an exaggeration but i figure its not that far off.

That is pretty much spot on, don’t know why really. Probably the same reason why engineering guys aren’t that hot in general either.

I don’t know, we have some pretty attractive girls in my engineering major. If you’re in a small engineering school you probably won’t get hit on much, though, since you tend to think of someone you have that many classes and everything with more as a sister (or at least you approach it pragmatically enough to realize that if/when you broke up it’d be a mess) but yeah, if you like engineering do it.

I don’t know, I had a friend who went to Missouri - Rolla (can’t remember what it changed it’s name to), and she was certainly below average, but she had dates ALL THE TIME. I swear every time I called her she’d been at another fraternity formal or date party or simply just going out with a guy from the dorms. Of course she was often too nice (desperate?) to say no…She loved the attention though.

For the record, it goes both ways. A lot of the guys in engineering aren’t that good looking either.

… As long as you don’t ***** around and want extra attention because you are a girl…
At least in my classes those girls are somewhat unpopular with the majority. (unless they are hot…)

Nah, don’t be scared. We certainly don’t bite, and like having more girls around.

Gstein hit the nail on the head.

they get rap ed

lol, everybody knew that some idiot would eventually come to this thread and say that ^

i dunno…i’m taking an intro comp sci class right now and all the guys in the CS building are overly helpful haha

From what I’ve heard, most of the time like everyone else. I know girls who have been given a hard time by their TA while doing nothing to the guys. You always have asshats.
