My school has gone down a very unique path of calculating GPAs by putting some (but not all) courses on a 5.0 and I’m really scared to apply to colleges because I have no idea how to explain that my grades are neither on a full 5.0 or 4.0 scale. What do I do in this situation?
That’s what my school did. 5.0 scale for APs, 4.5 for honors, 4.0 for regular. So even though the top number was a 5, nobody could ever get a 5.0 because we didn’t offer every class as AP.
I think often the guidance counselor has to fill out some sort of form detailing the grading scheme and stuff like that. Even if not, rest assured the admissions office has seen it before.
@bodangles Thanks! I was just concerned because I had them fill out a scholarship form today and she put my whole GPA on a 5.0 rather than explaining it (without converting my GPA to a pure 5.0) I’m glad to know that it should be detailed to colleges and not done that way.
