how are my chances?

Im a junior at a well known and highly ranked high school
my GPA is about 3.4 unweighted and 3.5 weighted, but I'm hoping it will go up after this last semester
my ACT composite score with writing is 31
I am taking 3 APs senior year and my GPA has been going up throughout high school. I also made it to the AIME math contest, have two presidential awards for community service, and played JV tennis.

my top choices for college are:
UC Santa Barbara
Penn State
University of Washington
UC Davis
UC Santa Cruz

how likely is it that I will make it into these schools?

UC in-state or out?

You have a good shot at all the schools you're applying to. Why not aim higher?

in state for UCs

do you really think I should aim higher? I wasn't sure how high I could go because of my GPA, but I'm applying for UCLA as a reach and am considering NYU. How much of a reach are those schools?

I'd say match to NYU (but don't expect any financial aid) and UCLA should be low reach-high match.

ok thanks, I'll definitely aim for those

please don't be discouraged, but your GPA is wayy too low for UCLA. their average is around a 4.0-4.1, and your weighted is only 3.5. you really have to work on raising that if you want a chance at LA.

You ACT score is quite good and it, along with the upward trend of your grades, should counterbalance your weaker (but nevertheless solid) GPA. Also, being an in-state student definitely gives you a boost at the UCs.

Chances on a scale of: high reach, reach, semi-reach, good fit, likely, safety.

UC Santa Barbara... LIKELY.
Penn State... LIKELY.
University of Washington... LIKELY.
UC Davis... SAFETY.
UC Santa Cruz... SAFETY.
UC Los Angeles... REACH.
New York University... SEMI-REACH.

thanks for the input everyone, it helps
