How are online college classes?

I'm thinking about doing an online college class but I was curious to know how they're run. So far I've only experienced one online class before and it was for high school. It wasn't very pleasant. I had to watch videos all the time about each lesson and take a multiple choice quiz on it. You couldn't email the online teacher because there wasn't one. Everything was just recorded videos. Not only were all the lessons videos but every single quiz/exam was multiple choice.

There were also "assignments" but you only got participation points on it. I remember that I clicked all the wrong answers on purpose and it still gave me full credit. The assignments were also multiple choice since the computer graded it. If you got an answer wrong the computer didn't explain how you got it wrong or how to improve. A lot of the material didn't go very in-depth either. It was mostly remember what the video said and finish the quiz.

I’ve never liked them much (two CS classes and a psych “hybrid”), but they’ve always been really easy. I find it’s harder to actually learn things in, but the material is generally less extensive.

I’ve also had a lot of normal classes use online homeworks and quizzes, most of the sites are okay and give some sort of feedback, or allow a couple tries. I’ve heard some are picky about formatting, which can be a pain. There’s also auto-grading in most of my CS courses, where they run a program to test the input/output of code/projects, the program itself isn’t super helpful, but TAs are accessible, at least.

I’ve taken one (English) and I absolutely hated it. I’ve also done a hybrid psychology class that I withdrew from after a few weeks because it was just SO AWFUL.

It sounds like you already know you don’t like online classes, so if I were you, I would avoid them at all costs.

Thanks for responding. I was anxious to know how they were.

I’m still trying to figure out if I’ll go with it or not. It’s a class that’s not offered in my area so it’s an option I’m not sure if I should take.
