Hmm… well, publicly, they say hazing is banned. But truth be told, I had dozens of friends rush and told me, first hand, that hazing, is in fact, NOT banned! Bahaha. Well, I guess it really depends on the sorority/frat and the chapter/location.

Haven’t rushed for one personally but will probably next school year, despite the hazing rumors… haha.

It varies from school to school and chapter to chapter, but they’re definitely nothing like the movies.

A huge part of a fraternity is the sense of brotherhood and some fraternities think it’s acceptable to haze pledges to establish that. I wouldn’t join a fraternity unless you go to a heavily Greek school. You really need to be committed when you make such a move as joining a fraternity (or a sorority),because these people will probably be lifelong friends.

Yeah, it’s different everywhere. That’s what the whole rush + pledging process is for: to allow both sides to find out info and determine fit.

Commitment: any fraternity worth joining will require a high level of commitment, but you’ll love the commitment if you joined the right one.

Hazing: all NIC fraternities (and most other national fraternities) ban it; it’s illegal. While it does happen, it’s really a minority, and you have the option to depledge and join another chapter if your chapter hazes.

Life: varies; some party ridiculously, others don’t. ;)
