I applied for Fall 2010 and I'm currently in talks with the head tennis coach about hopefully playing with the tennis team if I get accepted.

My question is: how are athletics at Oxy? Is there a big support for them? I know its only D3 so things are not quite as serious as a D1 school, but it would be nice to know that students are supporting their teams.

Also, if there are any athletes reading this (or anyone else who might know!), how rigorous is D3 athletics? Do they train every day? Or how many times a week?

Thanks in advance

Hey!

I’m a current frosh at Oxy, so if you have any other questions just let me know. Oxy Athletics are pretty well supported, even though we are a D3 school. For the few football games I attended, the stands were full and the crowd cheering. I’m not sure about the tennis team, but I do have friends on the ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, and rugby teams and from what it sounds like they always have people cheering them on at their games!

I was also supposed to be on the swim team, but had to quit due to a shoulder injury. The time commitment was pretty significant (morning weights four days a week, practice Monday-Saturday, and weekly yoga) so the program was rigorous. Don’t let that scare you, though! All of my friends who play sports here love it.

Hope that helped!
