I just underwent an epiphany this week and realized that pre-med is not what I want. I really like the social sciences and might head to business school or law school. I've heard how brutal the natural sciences is at Chicago, but how about...

1) How are the humanity courses at Chicago?
2) How about the difficulties of economic courses?

Any comments and perspectives will be sincerely appreciated. It would be better if current Chicago students who are (or were) studying economics add in some opinions!

Chicago has an excellent English Department as well, and it is one of the top places for Classics (both language/literature/philosophy and classical civilizations) and Near Eastern Civilization. There’s no better place to learn Akkadian or Sumerian!

What courses are required for me to get in top-notch business schools (MBA)?

I know I’ll probably need advanced Calculus (or do I?), statistics (is this very bad?), English, and preferably a foreign language. Anything else?

greennblue: Thank you for your insights. I am not sure whether difficulties are my main concerns. I’m sure every top-notch university is difficult to a certain extent. I am more concerned about the amount of academic support given by the university and the difficulty of the grading by professors. I think every program/major at Chicago is definitely doable as long as an individual puts his/her mind and effort (and most importantly, passion) into it.

JHS: I enjoy my IB English class a lot, and I am pretty sure Chicago will fulfill my desire for a more intellectually stimulating literary discussion!
