How are these classes?

I got my core classes down for my first 2 years I just need some ideas when filling in the rest of my schedule.

So for the following list rate and make general comments about the class, how interesting the class actually is, and how easy it is to get an A.
COMM 1800
EVSC 1010
RELC 1210
AAS 1010
CPLT 2010
USEM 1580

And then what is the hardest class of all the McIntire pre reqs?

Comms or Econs?

Thanks~! ( I am aware of ratemyproffesor.com)

The hardest classes for the Comm School prereq’s depends on the students strengths and weaknesses. The hardest has been said to be STAT and the Accounting classes. I would suggest you try to take two of the comm school prereq’s that are not humanities driven each semester. Do not plan to overload yourself 2nd year with the math/econ prereq’s. It will also be at that time you want to consider an alternate major and want to put those prereq’s into your schedule. Also, go to thecourseforum.com and register to really look at the professors/TA’s there for these specific classes. Do you opt out of ENWR 1510 as well as a language?

This is a good start to building courses towards your schedule pending on what is still open during your orientation.

ya i was using lous list, and that is my biggest fear-- classes i plan for being full.

So my plan sheet I have one math related course a semester and then my second year i have 1comm and 1econ class ea/ semester.

I do not see the Acct. class pre req on the McIntire website can you please let me know what classs this is? and I plan on taking stat 2nd semester first year, since I did well in AP stat and the info will be relatively fresh in my mind

Big – try this link:

Prerequisites[/url”>http://www.commerce.virginia.edu/admissions/undergraduate/Pages/Prerequisites.aspx]Prerequisites

Comm 2010 and 2020 are the accounting rereq’s

AVA55 gave you the link. With that provided, here is the main COMM courses:

COMM 1800-Making Business Work-Kemp is a great guy, but a bit quirky. You either get him or you don’t. Those that do really like him, those that don’t, well just think he is different.

COMM 2010-Financial Accounting-Erickson-She is nice, but the class may be quite difficult for some.

COMM 2020-Managerial Accounting-Do not know about this one yet.

The non-Comm course prerequisites for the COMM school run somewhat parallel with the A&S area requirements:
ENWR-1st year english. Take one that interest you if you can. It is a very different style of writing. Most 1st years like it, but get frustrated with the format of the papers they have to write. You are assigned to either 1st semester or 2nd pending on your student ID number.

Math-GET A GOOD TA!!! Whatever course you take Math 1210 or 1110 or higher. I cannot stress this enough. (This meets the Math/Science prereq for A&S)

STAT-Everyone has to take it and if you have taken the AP level in HS you should be fine. However, do not be fooled it can be a difficult class if you did not have a great HS experience. (This meets the Math/Science prereq for A&S)

ECON-2010-Elzinga all the way. If you cannot get him first semester 1st year then take him the 2nd year 1st semester. He only teaches in the fall. (This meets the social science A&S requirement, also one of the ECON prereq for that major)

ECON-2010-Coppock teaches in the spring. He is good. Look up the other instructors on this one. (This meets no A&S, but does meet ECON prereq if you want to major in ECON)

Humanities-Take whatever you want that meets this prerequisite that you have an interest in. (This should also meet several of the A&S requirements)

Foreign Language-Take one that you have started in HS if you can. Also, if u are starting a new language then try to take some of the courses in the summer at UVA through one of their summer institutes. (this also meets the A&S foreign language requirement)

Nothing is an easy A at UVa. Again, it depends on the student, professor, TA, course material, etc. From what has been seen thus far do not plan on any grade inflation, maybe some curves, but not anything major.

Hope this helps!

*Here ‘are’ the main COMM courses. Sorry, that was bothering me.

Another point I wanted to make regarding Lou’s list. Change the term to Fall 2010 and see the numbers for the courses you have an interest. This allows you to gage what is full as of now and how many slots they open up throughout the summer ie ECON2010 right now is closed at 360, however when you look back to last year they actually had 520 in the 1st section and 508 in the second. The other thing to look for is the number of sections that courses have now compared to last year in the fall. Like STAT 1100 has two now, but had three last year. Not saying every course will do this, but you need to stay vigilant if you do not get a course you want and check lou’s list/sis for openings as you approach August and when they open it up for students to change courses. Also, when you are registering if a course has a waitlist ask the person enrolling you to be put on the waitlist if possible.

The languages do not tend to have any changes in number of courses or students in each section.

Big mahalo, woosah!

BTW how are TA’s assigned?

You are most welcome!

I am sure there is a method to assignments for most departments for TA’s. Just look them up as you would a prof on thecourseforum. Students are very very honest about prof’s and ta’s on this site.

TA assignment often depends on how many TA’s are assigned to the class, and whether there is a discussion section. If there is more than one TA and the TA’s cover the various discussion sections (often the case) then you’ll get some choice in selecting who you get. However, that’s usually the case for larger classes. Some smaller classes may only have 1 TA, and some larger classes may not have any discussions but the prof. has TA(s) that he may assign to certain groups in the class.

The accounting comm prereqs are pretty hard, so those will be time consuming. COMM 180 is the easiest class I’ve ever taken (including high school classes)… I went to the class four times, literally, and got an A. You have to study for tests, but they’re pretty much all vocabulary.

I took a USEM I liked, but they’re usually only available for first years, so you should probably cross that off your list.

I will be a first year lol. Do you know whether or not it satisfies your 2nd writing req needed?

Go to Lou’s List and scroll down and click on A&S requirements. It will list which courses meet each requirement.

IMO, if you have a lot of area requirements to fulfill I would concentrate on those first. Second writing does not need to be completed until 7th semester. If you get into COMM school you do not need to take it at all. So I would fill your schedule with other courses first.
