<p>I'm currently in the process on finalizing my schedule for my first semester at UVa. I hope to eventually transfer to the Comm School, yet I also want to keep in mind that there is a chance that I won't, and don't want to completely ignore the fact that I might graduate from CLAS.</p>
<p>This is my current schedule:
Comm 1800 - Making a Business Work
Swag 2224 - Black Fem. and Masc. in Media
Relc 1210 - Hebrew Bible/Old Testament
Cola 1500 - Stories of Displacement
Calc 1210 - Applied Calc I</p>
<p>I'm currently on the waitlist for:
Fren 1010 - Elementary French I (#5 on waitlist - will enroll)
CS 1010 - Introductory to Information Technology (#10 on waitlist)
Stat 1100 - Chance: Intro to Stats (#21 on waitlist - still undecided as to whether I will swap this with calc if granted a spot)</p>
<p>I'd rather take CS 1110, but it is currently reserved for 1st year SEAS students, but the remaining 12 spots are supposedly opening up to students in other colleges starting today, according to the professor that teaches the class, but if I manage to get in, I will forget about 1010 and drop either my Swag or Relc class to take it. </p>
<p>All in all, thats 17 credits + Cola = 18 credits. Good?</p>
<p>Your current schedule apart from calc is going to be really easy. You should be able to get mostly A’s. The admissions committee considers the difficulty of classes you take in addition to grades. CS would make it considerably harder. That could be a good or a bad thing. If you’re already thinking about a backup to McIntire, Econ may be the way to go. Try taking an econ class or two and see how you like them.</p>

<p>oh okay. maybe then drop the cola class and take a usem or bio class or something ? i mean, there’s nothing wrong with taking sixteen credits. the average is 13-14. i remember when i was a first year, people were too afraid to take 15+ credits. i am impressed that the class of 2015 is so intent on working to the limit. but, there’s no harm (in fact, is better) in taking more difficult classes with less credits than doing well and taking easier classes with more credits and doing well.</p>
<p>Hmm, is a usem typically more difficult than a cola? Aren’t they both 1 credit?My OL stressed that we should all take colas because of the whole advisor thing</p>

<p>taking both CALC1210 and STAT1110 at the same time should not be too difficult you might want to consider that. What does everyone think of that idea?</p>
<p>Applied calculus is supposed to be really easy. In my opinion, probably not the best idea if you’re trying to have a rigorous schedule for the Commerce school.</p>
<p>That’s a pretty awful schedule. Pick up Econ 2010, CS 1110 and a language class. You can keep MATH 1210 ( even though it is a joke) and COMM 1800. Your OL was probably some floofy that thinks college is supposed to be fun. Drop your COLA, it’s useless. </p>
<p>A more general note, it is often thought that McIntire awards tougher schedules, this is absolutely NOT true. Yes, McIntire says they consider rigor, however a ton of McIntire students have taken the bare minimum and gotten in. I have friends who took advanced math who failed to get in while people who just took 1210 did. What does this mean? It means that gpa and performance in Econ and comm pre-reqs are king to McIntire admission. Don’t count on rigor to get you into comm.</p>
<p>@wahoomb you are aware that there are 2nd years, 3rd years, 4th years, parents, siblings, directors, deans, and other people unrelated to UVa that read these forums, right? Ok.</p>
<p>@110percentwahoo Yeah, I finally got into CS 1110, French 1050 (Accelerated) but getting into Econ 2010 is a long shot because its a really popular class amongst all students, talkless of rising first years, I need to request special consent from the professor just to enroll, and some people aren’t having luck enrolling, so Im just hoping to take it next semester. And I am taking Comm 1800 as I stated above… </p>
<p>And my OL was in both the E School and Comm School, and the Dean (can’t remember which one) sent out emails 2 days ago strongly urging students to take a COLA, and so did a lot of current students, so I dont see a problem with taking one.</p>
<p>So, it sounds like the GPA in the pre-comm courses is weighted more than the “general” GPA? </p>
<p>Also, how does this schedule look for a pre-comm first year that’s looking to double major in COMM and MATH or STAT (either financial business concentration or actuarial concentration).</p>
